Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic are flying high at the top of the Scottish Premiership and their fans here in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely delighted!
The Bhoys have been flying domestically all season and there’s genuine hope that their dominance in this area of the United Kingdom will continue for years to come.
Even with Rangers bouncing back to the top flight at the start of the campaign, Brendan Rodgers’ side have been dominant and could wrap up the title months in advance if they continue in this stead.
But despite their dominance, there’s been plenty of chat here in the pub that a couple of their players should have been flogged this January, especially with the need to improve growing ever-clearer.
Dominance in the league is one thing but if the Bhoys are to progress in the Champions League then things will certainly need to improve.
So, with that in mind, here’s two Celtic players that should have really been sold in January…
Efe Ambrose
Celtic need to improve if they are to do better than their Champions League group exit this campaign and one player who certainly isn’t going to help fire them to Champions League glory is Efe Ambrose.
The centre-back has been sparingly used this campaign after his woeful performance against the Lincoln Red Imps in the earlier rounds of the Champions League and Bhoys fans here in the bar have lost faith in his ability.
If Celtic are to make real strides in the competition in the future then they can do better than players like this.
Emilio Izaguirre
You’ve got to credit Honduran international Emilio Izaguirre for the way he’s come back into the Celtic first-team in recent weeks but again, he’s another player who won’t be able to help the Bhoys really assert their dominance in all competitions going forward.
Celtic fans at the bar agree the full-back has been a real servant for the club during his time in Glasgow but going forward, he just isn’t going to be able to keep up with the sort of talent Europe’s finest have on their books.
Celtic have plenty of youth in that department for the future and it’s worth beginning to blood them for the years ahead.
