2 players Rangers should have sold in January

After being humbled at Hearts on Wednesday evening, Rangers fans here in the Tavern are absolutely gutted…

Mark Warburton’s side are back in the big time of Scottish football after a considerable absence and the manager would not have liked what he saw at Tynecastle as his team were played off the park.

It’s clear that if Rangers are to reassert their dominance in Scottish football, something has to give and before you bring players in, you’ve naturally got to let them go.

And with transfer funds not as high as they once were at Ibrox, the need to get players off the wage bill is more important than ever.

The Gers fans here in the Tavern believe there are a handful of individuals that don’t warrant a place in the team and consequently, should have really been sold in January.

So after an in-depth discussion, here are 2 Rangers players that really should have been sold in the January transfer window…

Phillipe Senderos

Former Arsenal man Phillipe Senderos has hardly featured for Gers since his disastrous performance in the 5-1 defeat to Celtic at the start of the campaign.

And it’s clear the Gers contingent here in the pub aren’t all that fussed about him being at the club, especially considering he’ll be one of the higher earners too.

This is a squad that needs freshening up for European football, not a team that needs to hold onto players who are far past their prime.

He’s certainly one that should have gone in January.

Martyn Waghorn

The difference between any top sides in whatever country in the world you play at is the ability to score goals through a striker who can bag you 20-30 a season.

And unfortunately for Gers, barring club legend Kenny Milner, they’re lacking that sort of player and people like Martyn Waghorn just aren’t going to cut it at the highest level.

The journeyman was a perfectly viable option as Gers made their way back through the lower leagues in Scotland but when it comes to facing sides in the Champions League and Europe League? Not good enough in the slightest.
