2 players who could follow David Silva to Liverpool next year

Liverpool supporters were in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing their side ease past struggling West Ham 4-1 at the London Stadium, thus moving them up to fifth place in the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash in East London off the back of successive victories over Huddersfield Town and Maribor, and they started well against the Hammers with goals from Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip giving them a two-goal cushion at half time. And although the hosts got back into it through Manuel Lanzini, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first Premier League goal of the campaign restored their two-goal advantage less than a minute later, before Salah added some gloss to the scoreline with his second and Liverpool’s fourth 15 minutes from time.

Thus, there was many happy Liverpudlians in the Tavern over the weekend as their side moved above Arsenal into fourth place in the table, although they now have two weeks to wait until they see their team try to extend their good run of form given the forthcoming international break.

Nonetheless, there is still plenty to discuss for those Reds fans lining up at the bar, not least a recent report from The Daily Mirror which suggests that the Merseyside giants are eyeing up a possible move for Manchester City ace David Silva.

The 32-year-old has been magnificent for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season with seven assists in just 11 Premier League matches, but he has yet to extend his deal at the Etihad Stadium, and with his current contract up in 2019, speculation has been building about a potential move away.

And Klopp’s Liverpool are one side reportedly keen on a move for the Spain international, and if it were to happen in 2018, here are TWO stars who could follow the influential star to Anfield…

Keylor Navas

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has twice won the Champions League and has indeed become a La Liga champion during his time at the Bernabeu, but his future in the Spanish capital appears far from certain.

Recent reports suggest that the Costa Rica international is unhappy at the club and as such could be open to a move away in the coming transfer windows, and Liverpool are reportedly seeking to exploit that as manager Klopp has reportedly contacted the shot-stopper about a possible move.

Much has been made in recent times about the Reds’ current options Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, neither of whom have been overly convincing during their spells at Anfield, and as such Navas could be the man to finally bring some stability and security to the Liverpool goalkeeping ranks.

Virgil van Dijk

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk handed in a transfer request over the summer in a bid to force through a move to Liverpool, but the Saints weren’t having any of it.

Yet the Netherlands international said back in October that he was still hopeful of a move away in the coming January window, which is news that is sure to intrigue Reds boss Klopp, who may well be targeting defensive reinforcements after seeing his side concede 17 goals already this season.

And the 26-year-old may be the answer to Liverpool’s troubles at the back, but whether they can indeed convince Southampton to sell the centre-back very much remains to be seen.
