Liverpool supporters have been in great voice in the Transfer Tavern during the international break such was their side’s excellent form prior to the fortnight interruption, with three wins in the space of seven days seriously enhancing their Premier League position as well as their Champions League qualification hopes.

Jurgen Klopp’s men eased past David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town 3-0 at Anfield before comfortably dispatching Maribor by the same scoreline a few days later, a result which took them top of Group E in Europe’s elite competition. And they made it three victories in a week as a brace from Mohamed Salah as well as strikes from Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain secured a 4-1 win at struggling West Ham, a result which moved the Merseyside giants above Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal into fifth place in the Premier League table.

Consequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, many of whom are eagerly anticipating their team’s return to Premier League action on Saturday when the Reds host Southampton at Anfield.

In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Liverpool fans to discuss, not least recent reports which suggest that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore could be available for just £18 million in January.

The 28-year-old has struggled for gametime under Unai Emery this term and as such could look to end his six-year spell in the French capital come the New Year, news which is likely to interest Liverpool given that they have been linked with the midfielder earlier this year.

And should the Reds be able to beat Chelsea and Inter Milan to his signature, here are TWO players who could follow the Argentine to Anfield in January…

Virgil van Dijk

It was one of the transfer sagas of the summer window, but Virgil van Dijk remained at Southampton beyond the deadline despite the best efforts of the Dutchman to move to Liverpool.

The 26-year-old handed in a transfer request back in August in a bid to force through a deal to Anfield, but the Netherlands international remained at St Mary’s beyond the August 31 deadline, although that doesn’t mean that he’ll be there come the end of January.

The defender said back in October that he was still hopeful of a move away in the New Year, only to backtrack a few weeks later, and given that Liverpool’s defensive issues remain evident to all, it’s a move Klopp and the club’s hierarchy must seek to make in January.

David Silva

Manchester City have been irresistible in the Premier League so far this season, and David Silva has played a big part in their wonderful start.

The 31-year-old has scored once and laid on seven assists in 11 league appearances for the Citizens thus far, but was recently linked with a surprise move to Anfield given that his contract runs out in the summer of 2019.

And with no extension as of yet agreed, Klopp’s men could well seek to exploit the situation by making a move for the Spain international, whose presence in this Liverpool team would strike even greater fear into Premier League defences.
