Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in recent days after seeing their side end a wonderful week with a narrow 1-0 success over basement club Crystal Palace on Sunday, a result which moved the North London outfit level on points with Manchester United in the Premier League table.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men may well have succumbed to the Red Devils at the start of the week but they soon put that behind them with a sensational 3-1 victory over European champions Real Madrid at Wembley, a result which booked their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time since 2011. And although they were nowhere near their best against Roy Hodgson’s Palace on Sunday, they got the much-needed three points thanks to an excellent second half strike from Son Heung-min, which in turn moved them level on points with Jose Mourinho’s United in the table.

Thus, several of our resident Spurs fans have been toasting their side’s great week in the Tavern in recent days, yet many are using the two-week break for internationals to discuss what business their club could do in January to strengthen their squad and thus bolster their chances of success on a domestic and European front.

And one man who has been linked with a move to Spurs is Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, having kept close tabs on the 22-year-old in recent times given that his contract with the Bundesliga club is set to expire in the summer.

The Germany international has been majorly impressive for Schalke in the past few years but it doesn’t look like his future is at the club, with Spurs, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich all reportedly eyeing up a move for the youngster.

And if Pochettino’s Tottenham were indeed able to get a deal done for the 22-year-old in January, here are TWO other stars who could follow him to Wembley…

Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez hasn’t quite set the world alight since winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award in 2015/16 for his role in helping Leicester City win the title, but there have been signs recently that he is approaching his best form once again.

The Algeria international mustered just six goals and four assists in 36 Premier League appearances last term as the Foxes struggled in their title defence, but this time round he has already bagged two goals and laid on five assists to help Claude Puel’s side to 12th place in the table.

And the last few matches, notably against Everton and Swansea City, has seen Mahrez rediscover some of his best form, and that is likely to attract the interest of both Arsenal and Tottenham, who were reportedly interested in the 26-year-old over the summer.

And given how well he has performed in the past, and how influential he can be for a side at the top of the division, Spurs should look to lure him to Wembley in the New Year.

Ross Barkley

The saga surrounding Ross Barkley’s Everton future has been rumbling on for some time now, and it still doesn’t appear any clearer as to what the next few months and years hold for the 23-year-old.

The midfielder’s contract at Goodison Park expires this summer and he has so far yet to agree an extension, and with all the uncertainty surrounding who the next manager will be at the club, it doesn’t look like he’ll be penning one anytime soon.

And given Spurs reportedly held an interest in the England international during the summer, Pochettino could well look to reignite that again in January.

And given that the Argentine is willing to back young, English players, a move to Wembley could be exactly what Barkley needs to fulfil his undoubted potential.
