2 Southampton stars who could follow Mario Lemina to Liverpool if he leaves in the summer

Southampton supporters have been reasonably satisfied in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team rescue a point from their trip to Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday thanks to Manolo Gabbiadini’s late leveller.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s men went into their clash at Turf Moor off the back of reaching the last eight of the FA Cup with victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns, a win many of our resident Saints fans hoped would be the catalyst for a winning run in the Premier League. Yet they had to settle for a share of the spoils on Saturday as Gabbiadini’s late strike cancelled out Ashley Barnes’ opener for the Clarets, thus leaving the South Coast outfit with just five victories from their 28 league games, and only outside of the bottom three on goal difference.

Subsequently, there have been mixed emotions among Saints fans in the Tavern in the last few days, with some satisfied to get a point from their trip to Lancashire, while others were frustrated given that Burnley haven’t managed a league win in 2018.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Southampton supporters to discuss, not least recent reports suggesting that Liverpool are eyeing up a summer move for midfielder Mario Lemina.

The 24-year-old only made the move to St Mary’s last summer but has certainly proven his worth with several impressive displays in the Saints midfield, appearing in 20 of their 28 league games so far and two of their three FA Cup clashes.

And reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are interested in a move for the Gabon international, and were Lemina to indeed make the move to Anfield this summer, here are TWO other Southampton stars who could follow him to Merseyside…

James Ward-Prowse

Midfielder James Ward-Prowse hasn’t been a regular throughout his time at Southampton, but he has been in fine form since the turn of the year to nail down a starting berth in Pellegrino’s eleven.

The 23-year-old netted in their win over Fulham in the FA Cup before adding a brace in their 2-2 draw with Watford a week later, from which he has since added a further goal and two assists in six games to underline his importance in this Saints side.

And given the immense amount of talent and potential the one-time England international has, Ward-Prowse has got a very bright future in the game, and could well be the next man to make the move from Southampton to Liverpool, especially if the Saints lose their top-flight status this season.

Ryan Bertrand

Ryan Bertrand is comfortably one of the best left backs in the Premier League at present, and that has been reflected in his ascent to England’s number one choice in that department.

As such, the 28-year-old has been linked with a move with both Liverpool and Manchester City in the last 12 months or so, and with Southampton struggling to preserve their top-flight status, the former Chelsea man may seek a move in the summer regardless of the league they are playing in.

And while Andrew Robertson has performed admirably for Klopp’s side this season, Bertrand’s arrival would give the Liverpool chief much to ponder regarding how is his number one left back.
