Here in the Transfer Tavern, our landlord has kept a close eye on our neighbours north of the border Celtic, who have been tearing the SPFL apart. The Bhoys have been superb under former Liverpool gaffer Brendan Rodgers and are breaking records all over the shop.
However, although they are in great form domestically they yet again struggled in European competition, though they did have arguably the hardest group in the Champions League. This poses the question as to the on goings in the transfer window and who they’ve been bringing to the club, for some of our punters at least.
In recent years they have done some great business bringing in the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Fraser Forster and most recently Moussa Dembele in the summer, though they’ve been relatively quiet so far this month compared to their close rivals Rangers.
This will get their punters here in the Tavern talking and will for sure leave them with a few thoughts ahead of the close of the window tomorrow…
WHY NOT INVEST MORE?
Although the sums of money the Bhoys have cannot compete with the likes of the Premier League or China, they still have a sense of appeal about the prospect of a title and European football, as well as one of the bets atmospheres in the game.
They have more wealth than the entire SPFL and if they are to continue dominance they must continue to invest in young players like Kouassi Eboue, but the main thought from the Celtic faithful will be why haven’t they brought in more reinforcements.
THE CRAIG GORDON SAGA
The club showed a massive bout of faith in the Scotland international when they brought him to club after a long term injury and its now that he should repay that by remaining at the club!
The former Sunderland man has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with league leaders Chelsea expressing an interest in him to replace the potential out-going Asmir Begovic.
Not only that but every Celtic fan must be thinking why on earth would he make the move when he’ll do exactly what Begovic has done and just rot on the bench!
