Our landlord here at Transfer Tavern has been impressed by the way West Ham have managed to turn things around since the start they made to their campaign. Not only, that but they have also recently added the experienced defender Jose Fonte from Premier League rivals Southampton and rid of the seemingly poisonous Dimitri Payet. 

With that in mind, we are going to be thinking about the last few days of the transfer window as we go into the final few days of the New Year sales, calling an end to a pretty crazy month in east London.

Our West Ham supporting punters were promised a number of things in the summer window by their owners David Gold and David Sullivan, which maybe weren’t met and now their fans have many of thoughts going into the final stages of this window.

With that in mind, here are TWO main thought’s that we here at the Transfer Tavern feel the West Ham fans will have ahead of the deadline.

20 GOAL A SEASON STRIKER?

In the summer it was stated by owner David Gold that the club had £25 to 30-million to spend on a 20 goal a season striker.

Then, as the summer window shut they, in fact, wound up with two loan strikers in Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri, who between them, notched 1 goal before Zaza returned to Juve and joined Valencia on loan.

So, with that in mind a big thought on the mind of West Ham fans will be will they sign a striker now, and if so is it to be Brentford’s Scott Hogan?

Will he produce the goals that a reported £15m investment would be worth? It certainly is a risk.

Snodgrass for Payet?

Clearly, the Irons had little choice but to sell Dimitri Payet after the Frenchman threw his toys out of the pram. However, perhaps they should have waited until the summer to find a replacement. There’s little double amongst our drinkers that Robert Snodgrass is a good player, though was a 29-year-old really the soundest investment?

Probably not.
