It’s been a wonderful season for the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern.

The Bhoys completed the domestic treble in what will be regarded as a really successful year in Brendan Rodgers’ first year at the club, and our landlord believes the Bhoys could dominate Scottish football in years to come especially following the instability at their arch rivals, Rangers, in recent years.

Of course, there is still some work to put in and the off season is a great time for Rodgers to really state his intentions in order to take the Hoops to the next level.

To say the fans clad in green and white within the Tavern are excited about the future would be an understatement but they are an opinionated bunch, and it is clear from the talk flying around the Tavern that they also have thoughts on who need to be axed and who needs to be signed by their club this summer.

Though it’s hard to believe that a team who have gone unbeaten in the league this season do need to make changes within their squad, our landlord actually agrees with what the Celtic fans are saying, and he himself has outlined which players need to be axed and which players need to be signed within the next couple weeks.

Let’s take a look at them here…

AXE: Gary Mackay-Steven

It is clear to everyone in the Tavern that Rodgers does not have space in his starting line-up for Gary Mackay-Steven and he may be axed in order to bring in some more quality into his squad.

The Scottish midfielder has struggled with injury and whilst other players have impressed, the Bhoys in the Tavern are sorry to see that Mackay-Steven has not got his chance.

Unlike fellow former Dundee United man, Stuart Armstrong, GMS really has struggled of late.

The move may also do Mackay-Steven some good in the long run as he looks to rejuvenate his career.

SIGN: Patrick Roberts

The young winger has been on loan at Celtic this season and our resident Hoops would love to see Roberts become a permanent member of their squad.

There is no doubt that the Manchester City winger will add quality to a side looking to progress in the Champions League and our landlord has commented that this move will be good for Roberts. It is very doubtful that he will break into Pep Guardiola’s squad next season, despite impressing against them in the Champions League group stages last year.

AXE: Emilio Izaguirre

A good understudy for Kieran Tierney at left-back for this Celtic side but it is doubtful that the ageing Emilio Izaguirre has the quality to be of any use as Brendan Rodgers looks to take his side to the next level by competing in the Champions League.

Our resident Hoops agree and would just like to see a bit move strength in depth at Celtic Park and just feel Emilio would be better off elsewhere.

SIGN: Jonny Hayes

Whether Ryan Christie moves the opposite way to Aberdeen should not impact upon Celtic’s pursuit of Jonny Hayes, according to our landlord, due to the proven quality of the Irish winger in the Scottish Premier League.

Celtic fans in the Tavern aren’t so sure and they Hayes as a strong signing domestically but have doubts over how he will go in continental football. Despite this, at 29, Hayes in an experienced campaigner and won’t be bowled over by a move to a bigger club in Celtic.
