The Brighton fans have been welcomed with open arms in to the Premier League section of the Transfer Tavern since their promotion from the Championship.

Of course, there was one disappointment at the end of last season that the Seagulls could not hold on to the top spot in the Championship but our landlord still believes that Chris Hughton can be proud of what his side achieved last season. He has gone on to say that if Brighton are to be successful in their first dig in the Premier League, then maybe it would be wise to conduct some early business within the next two weeks.

Our new resident Seagulls agree but they have quickly noted that as a new Premier League team – they need to trim some of their squad if they are to gain some more Premier League experience. This has sparked a debate between the Brighton fans and they have been discussing the business that boss, Hughton must conduct in the next few weeks and it is safe to say that some interesting names have been bought up when discussing which players to axe and which players to sign.

With that said, let’s take a look at the two players Brighton should axe as well as they two players they should sign.

AXE: Glenn Murray

This may seem a ludicrous shout from the Brighton fans following his 23 goal season last year which saw their side go up to the Premier League but Murray simply has never shown the quality to be a real Premier League striker.

At 33, this would be a blow to Murray as he will surely not have many more chances to succeed in the Premier League but the Seagulls in the Tavern fear that if Houghton does not make this hard decision, they will struggle next season in the top flight.

SIGN: Stuart Armstrong

The Scottish midfielder had a wonderful season as Celtic completed a domestic treble and there is talk in the Tavern that he may be looking for a new challenge in the form of Premier League football.

Our landlord has pointed out that Brighton could do with a versatile midfielder and Armstrong can play in a midfield pair or as a number ten which will be more than useful as the Seagulls embark on their Premier League adventure.

AXE: David Stockdale

There is no doubting that Stockdale had a wonderful season between the Brighton sticks but his dragging out of contract talks is doing no one any favours and our resident Brighton fans feel that if Stockdale does not want to commit to their club, then he should be let go despite this being on a free.

The 31 year old keeper has been linked with numerous clubs in the next few weeks by our landlord who expects some announcement to be made on Stockdale’s future in the coming weeks.

SIGN: Mathew Ryan

A deal for the Australian goalkeeper may be needed thanks to the uncertainty surrounding Stockdale.

It is fair to say that the Seagulls in the Tavern don’t know much about Ryan, who currently plays for Valencia, but our landlord has done his research and believes that this will be somewhat of a coup for Chris Hughton and his men.
