With only 3 weeks remaining before the new season gets underway, Tottenham Hotspur are yet to make their first move into the transfer market.
Whether Daniel Levy is merely biding his time in the transfer market or simply has no intention of signing any new players remains to be seen, but either way the supporters will be hoping that the window will spark into life in the near future. The likes of Mousa Dembele and Toby Alderweireld have been consistently linked with transfers away from the club since the beginning of summer, but as of yet there is no official word on either of the Belgium pairing to report.
However, Tottenham’s window should not revolve around who they are selling this summer, as clearly they have plenty of room for improvement across the pitch. Regardless of whether Dembele leaves this summer or not is an irrelevant factor to consider, as ultimately he will need replacing in the not too distant future.
And considering Tottenham’s Premier League rivals are making plenty of headway in the market, it’s about time that Levy stepped up and financed the acquisition of three players who could make all the difference in Pochettino’s bid to finally lift his first trophy at the club.
With that in mind, here are three players who Tottenham should be targeting before the transfer window reaches its conclusion…
Pochettino and Levy should prioritise the signing of a versatile attacking player who can play through the middle and out wide.
Wilfried Zaha more than fits the bill, although Crystal Palace will be unwilling to accept anything less than a huge offer for his services.
Anthony Martial has consistently been linked with a move to Spurs, but it’s unlikely that United will be willing to sell to a Premier League rival this summer.
Whether he is cutting in from the left or playing in a centre-forward role, Zaha can inject pace and flair into Tottenham’s attacking play and end their back-up striker conundrum.
Tanguy N’Dombele has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer for very good reason.
The 21-year-old demonstrated an enormous level of potential in Ligue 1 last season which suggested he could blossom into a future star in European football.
With a confident swagger and zip to his game, N’Dombele (valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt) carefully balances his defensive responsibilities with his desire to move forward at every available opportunity, both with and without the ball at his feet.
Like Dembele, he is comfortable receiving the ball in tight situations before playing his way out of trouble, so the French midfielder is certainly a target worth forking out for this summer.
The arrival of Benjamin Pavard is one which is not entirely necessary at this moment in time, but if Tottenham want to compete with the best they have to act like them to by adding serious strength in depth to their ranks.
The French World Cup star can play at both centre-back and right-back, so he would be well-placed to fill in where necessary depending on injuries and suspensions.
Alderweireld’s potential departure is certainly something which Spurs need to consider this summer, and if he eventually decides to embark on a new challenge they should make Pavard their number one target to replace the brilliant Belgian.
