Having already been linked with one Qatari owned team this month, Dimitar Berbatov is now a target of another, in the form of Spanish side Malaga.
Malaga have been prolific in the transfer market this summer, bringing in players such as Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jeremy Toulalan, and Joris Mathijsen, as manager Manuel Pellegrini is given the funds to turn Malaga into genuine contenders for the European places in La Liga.
Despite their high ambitions and financial clout, it is unlikely Berbatov would see a move to Malaga as anything but a step down, given the prestige and stature of Manchester United. That is not to say that a move to Malaga is out of the question for the Bulgarian, as the Andalusian side could offer Berbatov the regular first-team football that he is currently lacking at United.
Reports in both the Daily Mail and Itasportpress claim that Malaga are in the process of tabling a bid for the striker, believed to in the region of £22M. Whilst this would represent a £9M loss for United, as they paid Spurs £31M for the players services, given that Berbatov is the wrong side of 30, and he is unable to secure a first-team place at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson may be tempted to let Berbatov go and use the funds generated in his long-term pursuit of Wesley Sneijder.
