Chelsea looked back to their best this past weekend against Southampton, and not to mention the fact they smashed Manchester United 4-0 the week before, which not many punters here at the Transfer Tavern expected.
After a solid opening day win against one of the form teams last year in West Ham, the season had very much been a stop-start season for Conte’s men.
But they finally look to be building some momentum and aren’t too far of the top of the pack.
They face another side on the brink of the top four so far this season in Ronald Koeman’s Everton, who themselves have been in quite the vein of form.
After a 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, they may have something to say about Chelsea continuing their run of form.
With that, we feel they can continue their great run of form against Everton and our landlord thinks that this XI will get the job done….
GK: THIBAUT COURTOIS
Chelsea’s undisputed number 1.
Despite having a bad run at the start of the season, he made a number of vital saves in his previous two games.
No contest with him at the club currently as Begovic hasn’t really grasped his chances at the club.
CB: GARY CAHILL
The England International has had a number of critics this season, himself included and after a torrid start it’s not too hard to see why.
He’s made countless mistakes leading to Chelsea conceding a number of silly goals, but with Zouma still on the sidelines and Terry still not looking match ready, after an awful display against West Ham in the EFL cup – he looks set to keep his place against Everton.
CB: CESAR AZPILICUETA
A fan favourite at the Bridge they even call him ‘Dave’ as his name was too hard top renounce back when he first arrived from Marseille.
Since then Azpilicueta has become a bit of a stonewall in the Chelsea back line.
It’s hard to imagine a Chelsea side without him in it – the 27-year-old is their best option and he has been a solid performer so far and there seems no reason to change something that is working.
CB: DAVID LUIZ
The 29-year-old Brazilian is in his second spell with the Blues and looks at home at the club
He can cause issues going forward against an ageing Everton midfield – the Chelsea defender will have a tough battle with Lukaku, which will for sure be one to watch!
LWB: MARCOS ALONSO
The versatile Spanish defender come attacker has made quite the difference, since his arrival from Fiorentina.
Many felt Alonso would play more of a sub role at the club, but under Conte is looking a classy player.
RWB: VICTOR MOSES
Many thought that his Chelsea days were numbered, after spending the majority of his Chelsea career out on-loan, at clubs such as Liverpool and West Ham
However, the Nigerian is finally getting his chance with the club under Conte.
Rightly so he has looked every bit worth his place this season and has been arguably one of the side’s best players, and has been very influential on each game he has played so far since the change in formation at Chelsea.
CDM: N’GOLO KANTE
He was the main man at Leicester City last season as they won the title, and he has kept that going at Chelsea.
He has been playing a slightly different role in the team, as Chelsea set up very differently to the team he was in last year but he has fitted in at the club like a fish to water.
He’s a rock in the heart of the Chelsea midfield.
CDM: NATHANIEL CHALOBAH
Like Moses he has been given a Chelsea lifeline under Conte, and he has featured mostly from the bench this term.
After spending a number of loan spells away from the club in both England and abroad, he appears to have improved a large amount and at only 21, has a long Chelsea career ahead of him.
RW: WILLIAN
Despite a great display from Pedro against United and Southampton – we expect with Willian now back from his personal leave for him to come back into the fold against Everton.
Chelsea’s player of the year last season will be a welcomed return, and could cause issues for Everton this weekend.
LW: EDEN HAZARD
The Belgian is getting closer to being the player we saw in the Chelsea title winning season.
After another great display against Southampton, we fully expect the 25-year-old to cause problems for Everton and help his side beat them this weekend.
ST: DIEGO COSTA
You may not like the man but you cannot, knock his ability to play the game of football.
When the Spanish striker stops all the nonsense with his silly fouls – he can be a real game changer for Chelsea.
The striker, like many last season, underwhelmed most of the punters here at the Tavern – but so far this season he has shown he is still capable with a solid performance last weekend.
Not to mention his stunning goal last weekend against Southampton.
