3 Celtic transfer priorities that Rodgers simply must focus on this summer (Not Dembele)

Celtic have cantered towards the Scottish League title this season, and fans here in the Tavern are delighted with the progress that has been made under Brendan Rodgers this season!

Despite the disappointment of being knocked out of the Champions League Groups stages, the Bhoys have bounced back domestically and are looking as strong as we’ve seen them in the past.

Fans here in the pub have loved the way Rodgers has led his troops to the top of the table, well and truly asserting their dominance over Rangers, who of course, are back in the top flight after a spell away.

And with the summer not too far away and the title more or less in the bag, there’s a whole wealth of chatter here in the pub regarding what’s going to be done over the summer in terms of transfers.

So with that in mind, here’s THREE transfer priorities that Rodgers simply must focus on this summer, excluding Dembele…

Tying Stuart Armstrong down to a new deal

Granted, Moussa Dembele has well and truly been the star of the show at Parkhead this season but one emerging star who has gotten all the Celtic fans in here talking has been Stuart Armstrong.

The attacker has now scored 12 goals this season and his great strike in the Old Firm ensured Celtic picked up at least a point against their arch rivals at home.

He’s a man that’s slowly been picking up form all campaign and Rodgers simply must reward him with a new deal, or he will be poached away.

Get rid of some of the deadwood

Brendan Rodgers has only had the one season to get this Celtic side to where he wants it to be but there’s plenty of feeling here in the pub that a complete overhaul would serve the squad well in months to come.

There are players that haven’t seen match action in weeks that are simply draining the transfer budget and wasting away on the season squad list.

Rodgers could do with getting the likes of De Vries, Izaguirre and Mackay-Steven out, unless he is serious about using them in seasons to come.

Keep Kieran Tierney focused on the football

Another rising young star in this Celtic XI is Kieran Tierney, who Bhoys fans here in the pub think is one of the best young players we’ve seen at Paradise for years.

They’re probably right too – he’s been absolutely fantastic all campaign.

But when the summer transfer window rolls around, there will be interest in a player who has been tipped as a future international star.

But Rodgers must keep the 19-year-old focused on matters on the pitch.

Whether it’s pre-season friendlies, a new contract or simply putting an arm around him when the big-boys come asking.

It will happen but Celtic must keep hold of him.
