Everyone here in the Football Transfer Tavern is preparing for the barrage of customer’s for the final tomorrow. A group of Spurs’ fans in the bar, who are starting alarmingly early, have been assessing the players on show this summer and who they would like to see at White Hart Lane next season.
Tottenham had a surprisingly great time of it during the 2015/16 Premier League season, placing 2nd throughout most of the season only to drop below Arsenal in the last few games.
Pochettino has a young, promising and exciting squad at his disposal however; with the Euro 2016 final just around the corner between France and Portugal – two teams with a host of top players in their ranks – the Argentinean manager can always look to add to his squad.
Spurs just need those few extra players to help make them real title contenders and with Mourinho, Guardiola, Klopp, Conte and Wenger all adding to their squads or at the very least looking to do so, Pochettino can’t get left behind.
With that in mind, the Tottenham fans here in the bar have produced a final shopping list for Pochettino of which Euro 2016 finalists would fit in well at White Hart Lane and here are the THREE players they came up with.
William Carvalho
This 24-year-old was the subject of a lot of interest last summer and this January but somehow, all the hype died down and it’s hard to see why.
Carvalho hasn’t suddenly become a bad player and with no serious injuries in the last year, the young Portuguese midfielder would still make a great addition to any side.
The best part about this signing for Pochettino, would be the fact that he could partner Carvalho and Dier together in a holding midfield role whilst pushing Dele Ali into a more advanced, attacking position which can only mean good things.
Moussa Sissoko
Another defensive midfielder Pochettino should look into. Moussa Sissoko was – apart from Griezmann – probably the man of the match in the Euro 2016 semi-final against Germany, he never stopped running.
It just goes to show how good Sissoko can be when he truly applies himself and puts all of his effort into a game, something he rarely did in the Premier League last season.
After Newcastle’s relegation into the Championship, it is widely thought that the French midfielder will leave the club in the hope of returning to a higher league. Whilst the Frenchman may struggle to get into the first team if Pochettino decides to bring him and Matuidi into the squad, his ability to also be deployed in a more attacking role will be an attractive trait to any potential suitors.
Antione Griezmann
Tottenham just missed out on the Premier League title last season partly down to the reason that they really lack those big game players who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck, where you need the 3 points and get you over the line.
If Euro 2016 has shown us anything so far, it’s that Griezmann is a big game player. The top scorer of the tournament and the man who pops up whenever he’s needed for his team – most recently scoring the 2 goals against the World Champions, Germany – Griezmann’s star quality keeps on rising.
This transfer would all depend on what the Frenchman is looking for; does he want a challenge with a team like Tottenham? Or would he prefer a move to an established league winning side like Chelsea, Real Madrid or any of the other top European clubs? The bottom line is, Griezmann would fit in perfectly behind Kane as part of a front 4 for Spurs and it’s a known fact that wherever the little Frenchman goes, goals follow.
