Arsenal have defied the pre-season odds that suggested they might struggle this season to start in decent fashion and play a brand of football that indicates that this campaign could well be the year that they get their hands back on the Premier League title.

The Gunners haven’t won the league for 13 years and Arsene Wenger finds himself under increasing pressure to finally deliver a big piece of silverware again, with some supporters here in the Transfer Tavern getting restless at their lack of success.

The landlord grew tired of cleaning up beer glasses that had been smashed in frustration by the Arsenal faithful last season and even he hopes that the Gunners can finally land the league title!

With the season just 11 games old, there is obviously a long way to go, but nonetheless Lee Clarke took at look at three images that sum up the Gunners’ season so far.

Transformed Theo

Theo Walcott has divided opinion among the contingent of Gunners supporters for a long time now but this season it looks as though he is finally showing his true potential.

The England man is capable of playing on the wing or up front and in playing in a more advanced role this season he has netted eight goals from his 12 games, including a superb opening goal in a 3-0 drubbing over Chelsea.

Solidity personified

The signing of Shkodran Mustafi has been a huge addition to the Arsenal team, with his partnership with Laurent Koscielny looking every inch the real deal.

The former Valencia man had a decent Euro 2016 with Germany and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger quite rightly decided to pay the money to take him to the Emirates Stadium.

The resident Arsenal fans here in the Tavern have been delighted with the German’s form, with one fan in the smoking area making him his player of the season so far.

Same old injury woes

Every year the Gunners boss Wenger tends to put his trust in a group of players, only to see one or more cruelly injured before his side have really got going.

This year Olivier Giroud has spent time out nursing a knock, Lucas Perez has picked up an ankle injury after a promising looking start, whilst this past week Alexis Sanchez collected a calf injury on international duty.

Wenger will hope that Sanchez’s injury isn’t too serious otherwise it could be another season wondering what might have been.
