What was evident for our Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern following their loss to Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-final was the fact their beloved Reds seem to lack a Plan B when thing aren’t going well.

Though much has been made of the wonderfully fluid attacking trident of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, the absence of Mane in particular looks to have rocked the Reds’ attempts to challenge on all fronts this term.

Neither Daniel Sturridge or Divock Origi look overly convincing in that particular system, a formation Jurgen Klopp seems to be hell-bent on sticking with and some of the Kopites in the bar are even starting to miss Christian Benteke.

While the Belgian struggled to command much of a starting berth at Anfield, he would have given the Reds a much-needed Plan B yesterday, an added dimension not at all currently prevalent in their ranks.

So, with the January transfer window in mind, here’s a look at THREE players Klopp has previously worked with who could provide them with a much-needed Plan B.

Christian Pulisic

While the young American was too young to be a genuine star at Borussia Dortmund under the German, he has been linked with a move to Anfield and was signed as a youngster during Klopp’s reign in charge.

Like Mane, the 18-year-old can break behind enemy lines, giving the Reds another option to penetrate defences, rather than constantly needing the ball to feet.

Sven Bender

Though Jordan Henderson has impressed this term, when he and Emre Can are at their worst, the Reds lack any sort of direction in midfield. Neither are overly attacking, nor are they naturally defensive, so the idea of bringing in a proper holding option in the engine room could then afford the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana to properly push forward.

Adrian Ramos

Obviously, the idea of Adrian Ramos leading the line for the Reds week in, week out isn’t the most glamorous. However, Liverpool so often lack a central striker to hit, allowing the likes of Coutinho and Firmino to float off would be a wonderful option to have late on in tight games.
