Liverpool are a hot topic in the Football Transfer Tavern so far this season…
They have been tremendous in certain matches, like their 4-3 win over Arsenal and 4-1 win over Leicester City.
Contrastingly, they have also lost 2-0 to Burnley – in a a game that showed that the side maybe have some problems that they need to address.
Their story of the season so far has been remarkably similar to Man United, with both sides suffering with inconsistent form.
Both teams have had bright moments, but they have also shown signs that they could make improvements – and there are maybe some lessons that Liverpool could learn from their rivals Manchester United as they look to get back into the top four.
With that said, here are THREE lessons that Liverpool could learn from Manchester United.
Consistency is Key
On their day Liverpool are one of the best sides around and can beat anyone.
They have shown that time and time again as they beat the big names of the Premier League.
However, when they are not at their best they can be atrocious – and it is often against the smaller sides that they meet their downfall.
Manchester United, under Ferguson and now potentially under Mourinho, have consistency as one of their main qualities – which helps them to win the silverware that they have done in recent years.
To succeed long term, Liverpool must learn to be consistent – regardless of opposition.
Winning Touch
Winning always seems easier once you have done it once and Manchester United have often shown that down the years, with the biggest example being their Champions League final win.
Liverpool have struggled for that winning touch in recent years, and it has often eluded them at the final moment – both in domestic cup competitions and in the Premier League.
Once they have won one tournament it could make the feet of lifting a trophy seem less out of reach – but that is definitely something that they could learn from United.
Stick To Your Style
Liverpool, very much like Manchester United, are a team known for an attacking and exciting style of play.
When Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm at Old Trafford his sides would always play in that way, and Jose Mourinho is continuing that trend.
They may have won an FA Cup under Louis Van Gaal, but the style of play under the Dutchman made him unpopular with the supporters and Liverpool can’t have that happen under Klopp.
Liverpool have always maintained an attractive style of play and they must stick to that, rather than losing their identity in the pursuit of silverware.
