3 lower league gems Chelsea must look to sign in January

The Chelsea fans in the Tavern think that the Blues start to the new season has been less than convincing thus far…

Antonio Conte may need to dig deep into Roman Abramovich’s pocket should he wish to keep Chelsea competing for the league title.

Big-money signings have made little impact on the first-team and the Italian manager should consider looking to the lower league’s to strengthen the squad currently at his disposal.

Once again, a number of key players have failed to produce performances and it may need a rebuilding process at Chelsea to finally see players like Eden Hazard return to their extraordinary best. Not many here at the Tavern are holding their breathe to such news.

Conte may not be a miracle worker but the former Juventus manager is known for his ruthlessness and the lower leagues are where he may find his answers.

With that said, these are 3 lower league stars our landlord feels Chelsea must consider this January…

Jamaal Lascelles

Chelsea’s Achilles heel this season has been their central-defensive woes. Our regulars here at the Tavern have been praying for John Terry’s return but their over-reliance on the Chelsea captain is becoming slightly worrying.

Unlike Terry, Newcastle’s captain Jamaal Lascelles has been sensational this season for the Magpies with them currently chasing a return to Premier League football.

Lascelles has the ability to be an England regular in the near future and Chelsea should certainly consider making a move for the former Nottingham Forest defender.

Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish

Yes – Jack Grealish. The wannabe England international certainly has the potential to make it to the top of the English game. With a disciplined manager taking Grealish by the neck, a superb attacking midfielder can become an iconic figure for a certain club.

Conte is renowned for being a disciplinarian so Villa should consider an offer from a club like Chelsea – and there would be an undoubted willingness from Grealish to make the move.

A couple of our regulars are scratching their head’s at this one but it’s certainly one that the Blues should consider.

Tammy Abraham

The on-loan Chelsea forward is in red-hot form for Bristol City at the moment and Chelsea should consider paying Bristol City a compensation fee for him to return Stamford Bridge.

Relying on Diego Costa’s contribution has become a worry for the Blues who are unable to seek adequate goals elsewhere. Abraham is the top scorer in England and gaining a number of plaudits as he continues to be likened to Ian Wright.

It’s certainly an unusual outcome for the Blues to take this January, however it should be considered figuring their continuing barren run in front of goal.
