Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha could face the axe after what may be the worst result ever for a Scottish club in Europe, if the punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have their say.
Caixinha’s side were beaten 2-0 in their UEFA Europa League First qualifying round by Progress from Luxembourg.
As a result, the Gers have failed to make the Europa League group stage and it has all but confirmed – to our local Light Blues at least – Caixinha was wrong to replace ex-Gers boss Mark Warburton in March.
Rangers fans won’t be happy and some are calling for the Portuguese manager to be sacked as soon as possible.
He has apologised to the club’s fans for his side’s Europa League embarrassment. With the pressure mounting, it begs the question as to whether the Rangers will axe the 46-year-oldd before the SPL season gets underway.
In any case, we’ve been mulling over the possible replacements.

Alan Pardew
The ex-Palace boss has remained out of work since leaving the Eagles in December. Pardew has an accomplished track record in England and could be the man to resurrect Rangers into the football world.
In fact, he was even linked with a move to Ibrox recently, and certainly would represent a coup for the SPFL.
Still, the 55-year-old’s wages may just be the stumbling block.
David Moyes
The Scot recently left Sunderland and is unlikely to obtain another Premier League job in the near future.
It’s time David Moyes rebuilt his career which has been on a downward slope since he left Everton. The ex-Manchester United boss could get the Gers competing with Celtic once again, though his time playing the Bhoys may make him an unpopular choice.
However, surely he’d be a bigger draw than Caixinha.
Aitor Karanka
Karanka has been a free agent since being sacked by Middlesborough earlier in the year. Boro were three points adrift of safety, but their defence was the fifth-best in the division.
The defensive-minded Karanka would shore up the Rangers defence, but he would need to show a change in his attacking mindset.
Having played – and been part of the coaching set-up at Real Madrid – the Spaniard would be a big name addition to the Scottish league.
