The Tottenham Hotspur supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern will certainly be pleased with how their side is doing right now after they picked up a 2-2 draw away at Manchester City last Saturday, which has left them third in the Premier League table – nine points behind the leaders Chelsea.

However, the Spurs fans standing at the bar will be slightly concerned about the reports suggesting that La Liga giants Real Madrid are willing to spend more than £50m on in-form midfielder Dele Alli.

The England international has been in fine form in recent weeks – scoring eight goals in his last six top flight appearances, including one at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend – which seems to have caught the attention of one of the world’s biggest clubs – the landlord is certainly nervous that the attacking midfielder could choose to follow in the footsteps of Gareth Bale.

The north London outfit signed Alli for just an initial £5m from League One outfit MK Dons in February 2015, and if the 20-year-old does end up making the switch to the Bernabeu, Mauricio Pochettino may look to the lower leagues to see if he can unearth another gem.

Will Hughes

The young Derby County midfielder seems to have been around for a while but it’s easy to forget that he is still only 21 years of age – the Spurs supporters standing at the bar are big fans of this kid.

Despite his tender years and having suffered some serious injuries – Hughes was ruled out for the majority of the 2015/16 campaign after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament on the opening day of the season – he has made more than 150 appearances in all competitions for the Rams – a stat that will impress the fans in the tavern.

While he may not have the goal return that Alli has shown he is capable of, the midfielder is technically sound and his accruate passing is one of his best traits – as well as his ability to run with the ball – and it is only a matter of time before he makes the jump up to the Premier League – the landlord believes he could make the grade at White Hart Lane.

Ethan Ampadu

Despite only turning 16 in September, Exeter City starlet Ampadu – who has appeared for Wales at Under-19 level – already looks to have a big future in the game.

The defensive midfielder, who is also able to operate at centre-back, made his debut for the Grecians in the latter position aged just 15 in a League Cup tie against Brentford in August 2015, and went on to win the man of the match award – an accolade that is sure to impress the Spurs supporters leaning on the bar.

His impressive performances have led to a number of Premier League scouts flooding to St James’ Park to see him in action, with Spurs’ london neighbours Chelsea reported to be leading the chase for the youngster’s signature last year.

There is one potential stumbling block for Mauricio Pochettino though – Ethan’s dad, Kwame, is an academy coach at the north London outfit’s arch-rivals, Arsenal – the landlord would argue that White Hart Lane is the best place for young players to get their chance.

James Maddison

Similarly to Alli, the attacking midfielder made his name in League One with Coventry City, with his impressive performances earning him a move to the Premier League with Norwich City in February 2016, before being loaned back to the Sky Blues for the remainder of last season – the fans in the tavern can certainly see some potential in the starlet.

However, with the Canaries getting relegated back to the Championship, manager Alex Neil decided to loan out Maddison to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen in the summer, with the 20-year-old scoring twice in 17 appearances in all competitions for the Dons before he returned to Carrow Road at the start of this month following the expiry of the temporary deal.

The playmaker has certainly shown glimpses that he has the quality to make it at the highest level, and Tottenham could be ready to make their move if Alli leaves for pastures new in Madrid – the landlord believes Maddison would be a risky but interesting acquisition.
