The punters at the Football Transfer Tavern have been far from impressed with Sunderland so far this season.

The Black Cats are currently bottom of the league with just two points to their name.

The punters at the bar have been discussing whether they think this is more because of David Moyes or the players that he has at his disposal, and the consensus is that it is mostly down to the playing staff.

It is seen as clear that the team need another striker to take some of the burden off of Jermaine Defoe, as well as a couple of defensive players.

However, there is also talk of who needs to leave in January, either to raise funds or just because they should leave Sunderland for the sake of their career.

Vito Mannone

With Jordan Pickford coming in and excelling, it could be time for David Moyes to make the young Englishman Sunderland’s first choice keeper.

If that does happen, it is hard to see Mannone wanting to wait in the wings again after having a taste of being the undisputed number one, so he could end up leaving.

Sunderland did bring in Mika who would be able to act as cover if Mannone was to leave.

Sebastian Larsson

Sebastian Larsson has had some great moments for Sunderland.

However players like Duncan Watmore, Adnan Januzaj and Wahbi Khazri are taking over the positions on the wing and there is also exciting players in central midfield, and so it will be hard for the Swede to get into the starting 11.

Larsson has also had some injury problems, and so Sunderland may be tempted to offload him and put whatever they get towards getting another player in.

Fabio Borini

For a striker who cost around £10 million, Fabio Borini really should be be scoring more than five goals in 22 league appearances.

It is often said that Sunderland are over reliant on Jermaine Defoe for their goals and attacking players, such as Borini not being clinical enough in front of goal is a big reason for that.

Sunderland would maybe to do well to offload the Italian and put the funds towards someone who could get on the scoresheet a bit more often.
