Arsenal and Tottenham look to be the clubs that will push Chelsea the closest for the Premier League title, but both North London giants could certainly do with some additional reinforcements.
Enjoying excellent seasons, although both sides will have their complaints, Arsenal and Spurs both fell short last term but seem to have made progress.
That said, it seems they’ll have to make more if they’re to launch a successful bid for the title.
All is not over this season though and our landlord believes that a signing or two before next Wednesday’s deadline can provide a huge lift to the squad, potentially providing the stepping stone to go on and leap-frog Chelsea later in the year.
The sides will also of course be battling amongst themselves in the second-half of the season, with Arsenal looking to maintain their perfect-record under Arsene Wenger of always finishing above the Lilywhites, whilst Spurs are desperate to close the gap.
Isco
The Spaniard has struggled to cement first-team football at Real Madrid and an exit for the midfielder could occur this year.
If he services were to become available, then both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur should look to make a move.
Spurs are in need of another superstar to ease the pressure on leading duo Dele Alli and Harry Kane, whilst Arsenal have struggled to find an heir to Santi Cazorla’s role in the midfield.
Isco could certainly fill the criteria for both sides and is an affordable option.
Nicolas Gaitan
Another La Liga man frustrated with game time, Atletico Madrid’s Nicolas Gaitan has struggled to cement a regular spot in Diego Simeone’s side following his arrival from Benfica in the summer.
With Yannick Carrasco to compete with, Gaitan’s opportunities look limited.
Both Spurs and Arsenal lack a top-class winger, excluding Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates, and Gaitan would provide a boost to both squads and has the potential to create a deadly partnership alongside the rest of his attacking contingent.
At 28, he also has experience.
Jordan Pickford
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both have world-class goalkeepers on their books but are seeing their number ones edge ever closer to retirement.
Hugo Lloris, now 30, and Petr Cech, who turns 35 this year, may have a few seasons left in the tank but both sides should look to the future.
Clearly, Arsenal’s need for a successor is more pressing and Jordan Pickford could excel on either side of North London, with the potential to claim the number one jersey for the next decade as he’s just 22-years-old.
On the books with relegation-threatened Sunderland, Pickford would be unlikely to turn down a move to either side.
