3 reasons Chelsea simply must sign Jamie Vardy in January

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern may not look back at this summer’s transfer window with too much fondness.

Antonio Conte had a tough summer in the transfer market, missing out on big targets such as Lukaku and Alex Sandro.

A few days shy of the summer deadline passing, Chelsea became linked with Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy.

The reported fee was £40 million but no move ever came to fruition as the 30-year-old remained at the club with whom he won the Premier League title in 2016.

Chelsea would have had the perfect start to the season if not for their opening day loss to Sean Dyche’s Burnley.

The Blues have since beaten Tottenham and Everton with new striker Alvaro Morata bagging two goals and two assists.

Despite the Spaniard getting off to a good start, a striker of Vardy’s quality wouldn’t hurt.

On that note, here are three reasons Chelsea must sign Jamie Vardy when the January window rolls around.

He’s proven in the Premier League

Unlike Morata, Vardy is a proven talent in the Premier League.

The Leicester forward currently holds the record for goals scored in consecutive games in the Premier League and already has two goals in three games this season.

In total, Vardy has 44 goals in 108 top flight games, an average of a goal every 2.5 games.

Getting some top-flight experience into his squad will help Conte in his pursuit of defending the championship.

He offers something different to Morata and Batshuayi

Both Morata and Michy Batshuayi are target men of sorts.

Vardy, on the other hand, is a striker who likes to use his pace to get in behind the opposition’s defence and offers something completely different to Chelsea’s current forwards.

Variety is the spice of life and could provide the different avenues of attack for Chelsea to mix it up mid game and snatch up all three points.

He will strengthen the squad for the UCL

Considering Chelsea are about to head back into the Champions League, their squad doesn’t look as deep as it could.

Adding another player, whoever that may be, to the Blues ranks will provide them with more depth should they suffer their fair share of injuries this season.

Adding Champions League football adds much more chance of fatigue and injury so new signings in January can help deflect that.
