Arsenal fans have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern during the international break following their side’s recent upturn in form.

The North London outfit are fifth in the Premier League having won three of their last four league games, the latest of which being a 2-0 victory over Brighton last weekend.

Nonetheless, Arsene Wenger’s side are five points adrift of the Manchester duo at the summit heading into their trip to Watford on Saturday, and know that they simply cannot afford any more slip ups if they are to challenge for the title as the season wears on.

However, the international break has seen speculation increase with regard to who the Gunners may look to sign in January, and one man who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is Everton youngster Ademola Lookman.

The 19-year-old only moved to Goodison Park back in January of this year and hit the ground running with a goal on his debut against Manchester City, yet he has since then mustered just 11 more first team appearances for the Toffees, and has yet to feature in the Premier League this time round either.

Thus, speculation regarding his future has been rife over the last few weeks, with Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town, and Tottenham linked with the forward, and Arsenal are another name reportedly in the mix for his signature.

And here are THREE reasons why the Gunners should look to land Lookman in January…

Huge potential

If his short cameo against Manchester City back in January is anything to go by, then Lookman has got a huge future in the game.

The 19-year-old, on his Premier League debut, showed no signs of nerves to calmly slot home past Claudio Bravo within a minute after coming off the bench in Everton’s 4-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s side.

And when you add in the promising signs he showed at Charlton Athletic, which ultimately earned him the move to Goodison Park, it’s clear that the England Under-20 World Cup winner has huge potential – could he fulfil that at Arsenal?

Potential attacking exodus

Arsenal could be facing quite the attacking exodus in the coming months, with the futures of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, and Theo Walcott all far from certain.

The first two see their contracts expire at the end of the current season and thus far have not agreed an extension, while reports recently suggest that Walcott could secure a January move away should his first team opportunities remain restricted in the next few months.

Thus, the Gunners could be without a fair bit of attacking talent heading into next season, and could look to Lookman, a young, hungry forward struggling for chances at Everton, as someone who can come in and somewhat plug that gap.

Obviously, the 19-year-old isn’t quite at the level of the aforementioned trio, but if given the chance by Wenger, it could be the making of the Englishman.

Could lead line for many years

At just 19 years of age, Lookman is set for a very bright future in the game, and thus could lead the Arsenal line for many years to come.

He has already shown glimpses of promise at Premier League level, and although he is unlikely to go straight into Wenger’s side and perform at the level required, he has got many years of learning and improvement ahead of him, all of which could see him become a top-quality attacker.

Everton fans have been crying out for Lookman to get a chance in the first team this season, which itself underlines how highly rated he is by the Goodison Park faithful, but also that he has shown signs of maturity to deserve regular football, even at the age of 19.

Arsenal will surely look at that, and think that they could be getting an absolute gem in January.
