The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling relieved that their opening day loss hasn’t started a trend for this season.

Recent reports from Tuttosport (via talkSPORT) suggest that Italian champions Juventus are plotting a January swoop for Chelsea’s Pedro.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a storied career which has seen him win the World Cup, multiple Champions League trophies, the Spanish league title and last season he added Premier League gold to his growing collection.

The reports seem to suggest the Old Lady are looking for a new playmaker to play in behind Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain.

Pedro missed out on the first game of the season following his red card in the Community Shield which saw Chelsea lose on penalties to Arsenal.

The current champions of England had a tough summer with Antonio Conte failing to land a number of key targets he had planned to bring into the club.

Whilst it seems crazy to suggest Chelsea sell a first team player from their ranks given their lack of depth but it wouldn’t be the worst deal for Conte’s club.

With that being said, here are three reasons why Chelsea should sell Pedro in January.

He’s had his best years

There is no disputing that Pedro has been a good addition to Chelsea’s ranks but there is also no disputing that the Spaniard’s best years are behind him.

During his time at Barcelona, Pedro was a key member of one of football’s greatest club sides but, nowadays, he could easily be replaced at Chelsea.

In the same position, Chelsea have Eden Hazard and Willian to use and because Conte’s formation tends to have them acting as playmakers and not wingers, the likes of Michy Batshuayi could feature too.

He’s getting older

Whilst 30 isn’t old, in the world of football it is.

Sooner rather than later, Pedro’s legs are going to begin tiring, his reaction times are going to slow along with a lot of other aspects of his game.

The former Barcelona man probably has another season or two at the top of his game.

Juventus would pay big

On the note of Pedro having a few seasons left at the top, Chelsea should cash in on him now.

Juventus would surely cough up £15-£20 million in this market to bring Pedro to Italy, not a huge amount for a man of such quality, though enough for Chelsea to consider it and potentially make a profit.

It seems smart to take that money now and reinvest it into the squad.
