3 reasons why Spurs can genuinely win the league this season

Our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern thinks that Spurs can push for the Premier League title this season…

Tottenham are the only side to remain unbeaten so far this season, and with an impressive display in their 2-0 victory over high-flying Manchester City it is easy to see why many are tipping them for the big one.

Last year ended very awkwardly for the North London club as they were within touching distance of Leicester City and a title win, only to slump to a number of late defeats.

This meant that not only didn’t they win the title but they actually finished third.

This season could be different though…

With that said, here are THREE reasons why Tottenham will win the title this season

Underdog Status

When you consider that City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all gunning for the Premier League title – Tottenham can certainly be considered underdogs.

The Spurs half of North London have had a lot to cheer about this season with a great start domestically and a decent start in the Champions League. All the while, some of their main title rivals have floundered.

We all witnessed an underdog win the title last year. When Leicester City won the title it shocked the footballing world – and Spurs could replicate that.

Nobody is expecting it – and so Spurs will have no pressure.

Belgian Defence

Toby Alderwield and Jan Vertoghen look like a brick wall this season and they showed this in abundance against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City – by keeping Sergio Aguero quiet all game.

They have forged a brilliant partnership and if they both remain fit all season then it will be very hard for teams to score against Spurs – especially considering that after the pair they have Lloris to contend with.

Defensively – nobody can touch Tottenham.

Striking Options

kaney

With the injury to Harry Kane, many thought that Spurs would struggle for goals – but since then we have finally seen the arrival of South Korean forward Heung-Min Son.

The 24-year-old was relatively quiet in his first season after arriving from Germany with a big reputation – but now he has settled in he has been a revelation at White Hart Lane.

With Lamela and Janssen as alternate attacking options, goals will not be hard to come by and, crucially – goals win you games.
