Another season, another relegation scrap for Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern to endure.

The Black Cats currently sit rooted to the bottom of the table, seven points adrift of safety and their future looks set to be in the Championship for at least the 2017/18 season unless manager David Moyes follows his predecessors and performs a Houdini act to avoid the drop.

Their squad simply is not good enough, with only young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and the ageing striker Jermain Defoe standing out in what has been a bleak season for the Wearside club.

And whilst Defoe’s future is unlikely to be at the Stadium of Light if they go down, there are deeper problems at the club, which our landlord believes will lead to an overhaul of the squad come the summer.

It is this view that sparked much conversation among the Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern with many voicing strong opinions about which players should be brought in and sent out of the club with some interesting propositions mentioned.

So with that said, here are the THREE transfer policies Moyes must focus on in the summer…

Sign Ulloa

With Defoe scoring 14 of the 24 goals netted by the Black Cats this season, our landlord believes that David Moyes simply must invest in a new striker to carry the load, even if Sunderland manage to hang on to their talisman.

Leicester controversially rejected bids for Leonardo Ulloa from Sunderland in January but the Argentine surely remain a target for Moyes this summer.

Add creativity

After missing out on multiple targets in the January transfer window it is vital that Moyes gets a supplier to assist Defoe in his goalscoring exploits.

Our landlord believes the Scot needs to pull his finger out and get a creative midfielder in as soon as possible.

Quality not quantity

The Black Cats have made 13 signings during the last two windows and to say the side have struggled to gel is somewhat of an understatement.

Our landlord says that Moyes must look to sign more quality players instead of creating opportunities for washed up stars from his former clubs, especially bearing in mind they simply have not performed for him this season. The common opinion in the Tavern is that the Scot should look to make profits from all the deadwood currently at the club.
