3 things Ozil destroyed Tottenham with he needs to build on for Arsenal vs Burnley

Arsenal fans here in the Tavern are jubilant after their side came out victorious in the huge North London Derby.

The Gunners returned from the international break to face arguably the one team that fans anticipate playing when the fixtures are released, bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Things couldn’t have gone any better for Arsene Wenger and his side, who rallied together when needed the most to produce a commanding 2-0 performance, that we haven’t been accustomed to in this Arsenal side for the first quarter of the season.

If you’re going to put your hand in your pocket to back a coupon this weekend, hold fire until you’ve seen our recommended Accys! Last week, our Premier League outright win treble with LeoVegas paid out—so we’re having another crack with Tottenham, Newcastle and Palace. We’ve also got a very enticing fourfold from the Championship and League One. Take a look and let us know how you’re placing your money this weekend!

Now looking to build on things, it’s important that this Arsenal side can continue their momentum moving forward, if they are to eradicate the Thursday night Europa League nights that currently cringe many Arsenal fans.

One man in particular who was so pivotal in the triumphant win was a certain Mesut Ozil who managed to secure the Man of the Match award in what was an Ozil we haven’t yet come to witness so far this season.

Having created the more chances than any other player in the Premier League this season, what’s all this fuss about Kevin De Bruyne?

Next up they face a typical Arsenal bogey team, Burnley. A side in the middle of a rampant run of form under manager Sean Dyche, after a streak of impressive wins have seen them become fearful of nobody, this could be a difficult game for the Gooners.

So after such a spirited performance for the Gooners last time out, here’s a look at THREE things Ozil needs to build on before his side face Burnley…

Mentality

Mesut has always had the ability in abundance just waiting to be unlocked in some cases. On any given day, the German has the power to produce a piece of magic worthy of unlocking any defence with his inhuman like vision.

However, so far this season he’s suffered something which many of the fans here in the Tavern like to call ‘small game’ syndrome, which can only be defined as him going missing in the games that he can possibly cause the most damage in, due to him having the mindset of not needing to be at his best in order to beat the opposition.

A switch in mentality normally hampers the Arsenal midfielder, due to his tendency to switch off and allow his head to drop when things aren’t going his way, which is something you can’t afford to do when your side is playing catch up.

Effort levels

The German wizard now heads into his 5th season with the Gunners, although, things haven’t exactly been on the best of terms after reports suggested that he displays a huge lack of effort during training sessions, that has provoked a negative response from many of the players.

However, this became news of the past in what can only be explained as an exceeding amount of effort being put into the display that fans came to witness in the North London Derby, with darting runs, tracking back, you name it.

You can only start beginning to think that he only puts the effort in when it suits him the most.

Moving forward to face an impressing Burnley side, Wenger will need his talisman to be at the top of his game if they are to come away from the game with a result that should be expected. But against a team that has caused a dip in form for Ozil in previous years, only time will tell as to whether the midfielder will decide to put the effort in on the day.

Positive consistency

Indeed, as many fans have come to witness with the frustrating 29-year-old, he can often let his negative body language take over in the midst of a bad team performance or as a goal goes in. This quite possibly has to have been the major let down for the progress of Mesut during his Arsenal career, now established as one of their star men he’s let himself go down a couple of wrong turnings.

In forward based positions against Spurs he found himself with time and space to weigh up the best possible options for the side, unlike at many other points in his games so far this season the midfielder opted to have a couple of shots on goal.

Performances such as these are becoming a rarity in the 29-year old’s play, having witnessed his lazy like nature that has drawn so much criticism to his performances in recent games.

So in moving forward to the game against Burnley, a spirited performance is needed once again, to show fans and pundits just how special the midfielder can be on his day.

So Arsenal fans, thoughts?
