A 0-0 bore draw wasn’t exactly surprising for the Southampton and Swansea fans in the Transfer Tavern.

Both sides have had difficulties recruiting players this summer, particularly the Saints who have been preoccupied with the ongoing Virgil van Dijk saga. The skipper missed Saturday goalless draw with the Swans after claiming he had an illness.

Southampton certainly didn’t miss him on the weekend, but Mauricio Pochettino will be concerned about his team’s lack of goalmouth action.

Their best chance of the game came when Dusan Tadic’s powerful effort forced a save from Lukas Fabianski, before Maya Yoshida headed wide with the goal at his mercy.

As for Swansea, Paul Clement will be pleased with the point at a tough place to go. The Welsh side were under the cosh for the majority of the game, but managed to come through unscathed.

SAINTS GOAL DROUGHT CONTINUES

The new manager has found the same old problems as Southampton continue to struggle to find the net.

The Saints goal drought at St Mary’s has now stretched to 545 minutes as they continue to miss fire in front of goal.

SWANSEA SHOWING FIGHT

Paul Clement has impressed since his arrival in January. The Englishman will be hugely satisfied with coming away with a point, but Clement knows he has work to do both on and off the pitch.

Swansea need Tammy Abraham, Wayne Routledge and Jordan Ayew to make more of an impact. Fortunately Fernando Llorente is expected to return for the visit of Manchester United this weekend.

VAN DIJK DISRUPTING SAINTS

The Dutchman’s on going love affair with Liverpool continues to be unsettling for Southampton.

Last week, Van Dijk submitted a transfer request in a bid to force through a move to the Reds, but Mauricio Pellegrino’s side remain adamant that the 26-year-old will not be sold at any price.

He’s been training on his own since telling the boss he wants to leave.
