The Christmas period is now well underway in the Premier League and here in the Transfer Tavern we’re well in the mood for some festive football.
We’re set to see huge developments at both ends of the table over the coming weeks as squad management becomes crucial going into what could be a pivotal January window.
Certainly, our local Liverpool supporters are all too aware of what they can achieve with a good run and some good signings over the coming weeks with them best placed, currently, to challenge Chelsea for the Premier League title.
The Reds are currently six points behind the leaders but have scored more goals than anyone else so are looking good for a great season.
We’ve seen some chinks in their armour in recent weeks, though, and so, ahead of January, our landlord reckons these three players need to be signed within a week of the window opening to show they really mean business…
Christian Pulisic

The young American is one of the hottest properties in Europe right now and so Liverpool would be doing well if they managed to sign him.
He’s already played in both the Bundesliga and Champions League for Dortmund whilst he’s also nailed down a starting spot this season despite only being a teenager and so that tells you just how good he is and can be. Under Jurgen Klopp he’d surely get even better and that would certainly be something to get excited about for the Reds fans.
Geoffrey Kondogbia

The powerful midfielder could just be the missing component the Reds need in their team.
Whilst their central area has good energy, passing ability and creativity it lacks brute force and sometimes you need that to win games. Kondogbia has that in abundance whilst he can also play too so he’d likely be a very welcome signing at the club. His current side Inter are struggling so the Reds should see if they can prise him away.
Virgil van Dijk

The biggest weakness, still, of the Reds’ side is defence.
We’ve seen recently they can still fall to pieces with even the slightest suggestion that they are going to come under pressure and that will not do if they want to win the league. Time to move for van Dijk, then, with his power and impressive reading of the game that has seen him become one of the top flight’s best centre halves this season.
