Tottenham fans have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern after seeing their side secure key victories over Real Madrid and Crystal Palace just prior to the international break, results which helped them qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League, and indeed move up to third in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men may well have lost 1-0 to Manchester United little over a fortnight ago but they soon hit back with a stunning 3-1 success over Zinedine Zidane’s Real at Wembley, a result which sealed their place in the Champions League knockout stages for the first time since 2011. And they rounded off a fine week with a crucial 1-0 success over Roy Hodgson’s Palace, with Son Heung-min getting the all important winner midway through the second half to move Pochettino’s side level on points with second place United in the Premier League table.

Thus, there have been many delighted Spurs fans in the Tavern this week, many of whom are eagerly anticipating the return of the Premier League this weekend, and that’s because Saturday sees their side make the short trip across North London to face rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

In the meantime though, there is plenty for our resident Tottenham supporters to get their teeth into, not least a recent report which suggests that Pochettino’s men are keeping tabs on Watford’s Richarlison.

The 20-year-old only moved to Vicarage Road during the summer but has hit the ground running at the Hertfordshire-based club, having scored four goals and laid on three assists in just 11 league appearances for Marco Silva’s side.

And it’s form which has reportedly attracted the interest of Spurs, and as such here are THREE ways in which Tottenham could line up with the Brazil youth international post-January…

Front three (3-4-3)

It hasn’t been used too readily this season by Pochettino, but Richarlison’s desire to get wide and take defenders on could see the Spurs chief adopt a 3-4-3 formation.

The Watford man has bagged four goals and laid on three assists from the wide left position, and as such could be exactly what main man Harry Kane is seeking to get on the end of in the penalty area.

And with Christian Eriksen occasionally having played in a deeper role this season, Pochettino needn’t worry about getting him, Kane, and Dele Alli in the same team, as the Dane could be one of those just behind the front three marshalling and orchestrating things in the middle of the park.

Midfield trio (4-2-3-1)

Used sparingly by Pochettino this season but quite often last term, a 4-2-3-1 formation would give Richarlison the chance to get wide, stay wide, and create opportunities from the left flank.

With two of the best midfielders in the Premier League in Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama, as well as the likes of Eric Dier and Harry Winks to choose from, the Watford star would be awarded freedom by Pochettino down the left-hand-side to go out and create goal-scoring chances.

And with an attacking full back in either Ben Davies or Danny Rose for company, the 20-year-old could reap the rewards down the left, while also allowing the likes of Alli and Eriksen to remain in their best positions as part of this midfield trio.

Wing-back (3-4-3/3-4-1-2)

Pochettino has often utilised a back three so far this season, chiefly in a 3-4-2-1, but that particular system doesn’t really incorporate out-and-out wingers.

So, for Richarlison to succeed at Spurs, the 20-year-old may need to acclimatise to the demands of a wing-back, especially given the calibre Pochettino currently has at his disposal.

However, the Watford star has the pace to suggest that he could indeed make it as a wing-back, and with the future of Danny Rose far from certain, Spurs may need another option in that department to compete with Ben Davies.

Richarlison, in time, could give them that.
