Manchester City will go into this week’s UEFA Champions League contest with Borussia Monchengladbach, fresh off the back of an excellent win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday – and our City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still buzzing!

Pep Guardiola saw his team click once again after what has been a successful start to their Premier League campaign to say the very least, and he will be hoping to continue this good form with another victory over the Bundesliga outfit this Tuesday

Monchengladbach enter the game having won one and lost one from two games in the Bundesliga this season.

However the club have once again started to play attractive football as the aim to go one better and reach the last 16 this season.

The UEFA Champions League will not allow Guardiola an excuse to rotate his successful side, as the club’s priority this season is to go one better than the semi-final place last season.

This is the line-up our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern has predicted will beat the German outfit in the Champions League…..

GK – Claudio Bravo

The goalkeeper had a nervous start to his City career on Saturday, after dropping the ball allowing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score on Saturday.

There is no doubt Guardiola will keep his new number one in goal as he aims to implement his already impressive passing style.

Bravo will be hopeful a first clean-sheet for City will allow him to settle into life in Manchester.

RB – Bacary Sagna

The ever reliable French international is widely expected to keep his place in the starting XI, following an impressive 12 months at City.

Strong, calm and collective Sagna is not expected to lose his first-team position to club legend Pablo Zabaleta this Tuesday.

Sagna will be desperate to achieve his first clean sheet in almost a month.

CB – John Stones

Stones has been a sensation under Guardiola and proving all the doubters wrong who stated he was not worth his price-tag.

The former Everton defender is almost Guardiola’s baby project, as he aims to transform Stones into the world-class centre-back he has the potential to be.

He has barely put a foot wrong in his short City career and widely tipped to keep his place in the starting XI.

CB – Nicolas Otamendi

It’s amazing what a manager can do to a player.

The rash and overly eager Argentine was heavily criticised by many last season and rightly so.

Now under Guardiola, Otamenid has shown why he was one of Europe’s top defenders at Valencia and struck a strong case for man of the match against Manchester United on Saturday.

LB – Gael Clichy

The epitome of a squad player and superb professional, Gael Clichy will probably return to the City XI as he and Kolarov constantly have been swapped during their six seasons together.

Clichy will bring more defensive security to this City side, but will undoubtedly lose a bigger attacking threat Kolarov brings.

CM – Fernandinho

Mr. consistency and arguably the most underrated player in the Premier League.

Ilkay Gundogan will rotate with Fernandinho who has been City’s best player under Guardiola.

The return to fitness may prove a game to soon for Gundogan, who will be on the bench for City allowing Fernandinho another game before he will probably be rested for Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth.

CAM – David Silva

The Spaniard is now dominating games and controlling the pace of the contest – somewhat like Iniesta used to at Barcelona under Guardiola.

Now Spain’s 5th all-time top scorer, David Silva looks irreplaceable in this City side currently and Guardiola would be a foolish man to drop the 30 year-old.

CAM – Kevin De Bruyne

Is there a better number 10 in the Premier League? Or Europe at the moment?

You’d have to go a long way to better Kevin De Bruyne’s form in the past two years.

Instrumental in City’s success on Saturday.

His man of the match performances seen him return to his very best that devastated the Premier League and Europe last season.

RW – Leroy Sané

The German international made his debut on Saturday after returning from a hamstring injury which delayed his debut.

He almost assisted Kevin De Bruyne to add a third before the Belgian struck the post.

Sané looks like another dimension City didn’t have last season and Tuesday’s game will probably see him make his first start for the club following his move from Schalke.

LW – Nolito

The perfect Guardiola player and one that had many heads scratching when City signed him for Celta Vigo.

A work-horse with end product is something City have craved since the arrival of Jesus Navas in 2013, but despite being 29 years-old, Nolito is proving that hard-work will bring success.

Nolito has been crucial to City going forward and it’s unlikely the Spaniard will drop the Spanish international for Tuesday’s clash with the Bundesliga outfit.

ST – Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero may be banned domestically but that doesn’t hamper Guardiola’s options to select him for the Champions League.

The man for the big occasion is not expected to be benched  despite Iheanacho’s derby winner on Saturday.

City’s highest ever European scorer, surely the first name on the team-sheet also.
