Here at the Transfer Tavern we were impressed by Swansea City’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool last time out in the Premier League.

Paul Clement has made a brilliant impact on arrival at the club and two of his new signings Martin Olsson and Tom Carroll made an instant impact last time out.

The Swans are in serious trouble of relegation, though, and a run of form from their victory over Liverpool is really needed if they are to have any hopes of survival.

Their opponents this weekend – Southampton – found themselves battered 5-0 by Arsenal in the FA Cup last Saturday whereas the Swans had no fixture so mentally they should be stronger going into the game.

And although the Saints made a number of changes to their side in the Cup it could have a knock on effect to their entire team.

With that in mind, then, if Clement picks this Swansea City XI, they will demolish Southampton..

GK: Lukasz Fabianski

The former Arsenal goalkeeper was ever reliable last season, making vital saves but for whatever reason it hasn’t worked out the same for the Polish international this year.

He’ll need a big game and to be back at his very best to ensure his side get to safety.

RB: Kyle Naughton

The former Spurs man has had his critics this campaign along with the rest of the shaky Swans defence.

He’ll have his work cut out with Nathan Redmond on the wing but if he can perform as he did last time out against Liverpool, then he’ll be fine.

CB: Federico Fernandez

The big Argentine has been very questionable at times for the Swans this season.

He has been shaky at best but with very limited options at centre-back it is likely that he will keep his place in the side. The club really need him to step his game up and help tighten up the back-line.

CB: Alfie Mawson

The young English centre-back has been brilliant in an otherwise poor defence.

The 22-year-old has really broke through into the side well and he will be a regular for the remainder of the season.

LB: Martin Olsson

It appears Clement is a fan of the Olsson twins, having brought his brother Marcus to his former club Derby and now bringing in Martin to Swansea from Norwich earlier in the January window.

Olsson made his debut in the last game against Liverpool and linked up superbly with the other new signing Tom Carroll which led to a great goal from Fernando Llorente.

CDM: Jack Cork

The former Southampton midfielder and current Swansea vice-captain will look to get one over on his former employers.

In this time of need for his side, he will need to show his leadership qualities and help his side out of the abyss and back to safety.

CDM: Leroy Fer

A cursed player? Relegated with QPR, relegated with Norwich… he’ll be hoping that he doesn’t make it a hat-trick with Swansea City!

The Dutch international on his day can be vital for the Swans but he can be a hit and miss at times, they’ll be hoping they get the best out of him in this vital game.

RAM: Wayne Routledge

Having signed a new contract at the club, the punters here at the Transfer Tavern will be hoping that he can reward the club with a fine performance this weekend.

He isn’t a player to write home about but he can be brilliant at times and is experienced in this situation so could use it to help his club.

CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson

The key man for the Swans and easily their best player! The Icelandic international has been superb in an otherwise lacklustre Swansea side.

He needs another big game in this one to help his side to an important victory.

LAM: Tom Carroll

The new arrival from Tottenham in the January window has been a superb addition to the squad!

He put in a shift against Liverpool and got himself a superb assist for good measure. The 24-year-old could be just what the Swans need at this point of the season.

ST: Fernando Llorente

The big Spanish striker could be the difference maker in this fixture – the former Juventus man knows where the goal is and has scored some pivotal goals for his team.

He needs to keep it up consistently towards the end of this campaign to help his side stay in the Premier League.
