Burnley have made a solid start for a newly promoted side, and we here in the Transfer Tavern feel it’s ultimately due to the commitment shown to ever the popular manager, Sean Dyche.
He’s a hard-working chief and a cult-hero amongst the Clarets propping up the bar, putting together a great side on the small budget the club have.
Bringing in the likes of Steven Defour and Jóhann Gudmundsson has been a revelation at Turf Moor so far this season, affording them some extra class.
Last time out, the Clarets shocked Everton with a 2-1 victory as Scott Arfield scored late on to secure all three points – not too bad considering the form Everton have been on themselves lately.
Now, the Lancashire outfit find themselves in a comfortable 14th place in the current Premier League standings – with a solid 10 points from 9 games thus far.
Still, it doesn’t get any easier as the make the short journey to Old Trafford this Saturday.
Although United themselves are in somewhat awful form and coming off the back of a 4-0 defeat to Chelsea, there are few harder tests than a trip to the Theatre of Dreams.
However, we feel this Burnley XI can upset United at Old Trafford this Saturday.
GK: TOM HEATON
The former Manchester United youngster has been a rock between the sticks for Burnley so far this season.
Making the most saves of the season so far – he could be pivotal to their chances.
For the visitors to have any kind of hope of causing an upset at the Theatre of Dreams this Saturday, Heaton will have to be on top form.
RB: MATTHEW LOWTON
The former Aston Villa full-back has been a solid performer in the Burnley back four so far this season and as long as he’s fit will probably be a mainstay in the Burnley defence.
The 25-year-old left Villa for Burnley at the start of last season and it would appear he made the right choice – he’ll have a tough task of keeping Lingard or Rashford at bay at Old Trafford
CB: MICHAEL KEANE
The 23-year-old has been the stand-out star alongside another former United man Tom Heaton so far for Burnley, both now in the England set-up and rightly so.
A big game needed from the centre-back to keep the likes of Ibrahimovic and Rashford quite at Old Trafford, and prove the Red Devils they were wrong to let him go.
CB: BEN MEE
The former Manchester City youngster will relish the opportunity to get one over on his former foes Manchester United this Saturday and with a solid performance at the back alongside Keane and it could be curtains for United.
LB: JON FLANAGAN
The Liverpool loanee would love nothing more than to get one over on Manchester United and this could be his chance to help Burnley do just that.
Due to injury problems it saw his chances at Liverpool cut, but with this move away temporarily it could be good for both the player and his parent club.
CDM: JEFF HENDRICK
After arriving from Derby County on Deadline Day, the Republic of Ireland international has settled in very quickly to Premier League life- even scoring for his new club.
The 24-year-old was highly thought of during his time with Derby and it’s easy to see why, he controlled the game at Everton and prevented them from scoring by cutting up their play in the middle of the park.
CDM: DEAN MARNEY
With Steven Defour out injured more than likely for the United game, the the Belgian will be sorely missed that’s for sure.
So, veteran midfielder and former Hull City man Dean Marney will more than likely feature in a more defensive midfield role against the Red Devils.
CAM: SCOTT ARFIELD
The Canadian international scored the winner against Everton last weekend and for sure Burnley could do with another display like he had at Turf Moor last week against this strong United side.
RM: JOHAN BERG GUDMUNDSSON
After a solid Euro 2016 with the surprise package of the tournament, Iceland, it was only a matter of time before a bigger club came calling for the then Charlton Athletic player.
Many worried if he’d be able to make the step up from the relegated Championship side, but he’s had no problems what so ever.
Looking very solid.
LM: GEORGE BOYD
The experienced midfielder loves to use his burst of pace to take players on and he’ll for sure need that when he comes up against a very pacy Antonio Valencia at right-back this Saturday.
ST: SAM VOKES
The Wales international has struggled to find the net in recent games but don’t let that fool you.
With his stature and goalscoring prowess, he’ll only need the one header one powerful shot and he can cause havoc to any defenders around him.
