4-3-3: This Celtic line-up will batter Inter Milan in their pre-season friendly

Celtic will face Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup on the 13th August.

The cup brings top teams from around the world together to take part in the tournament, and includes the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and reigning Premier League Champions Leicester City.

Celtic will be looking to redeem themselves in the cup after suffering a loss against The Foxes, and to La Liga champions Barcelona.

The Scottish champions were beaten by Messi and co, but far from disgraced, after an equaliser from Leigh Griffiths to make it 1-1 Celtic held their own before an unfortunate own goal from Efe Ambrose, with Munir Mohammed sealing Barca’s 3-1 victory.

Inter finished fourth in Serie A last season, but haven’t fared well in the Champions Cup so far, losing to PSG early in the tournament, before suffering a heavy 4-1 loss to Bayern Munich.

With both teams in poor form, Celtic v Inter is likely to be an interesting one. Brendan Rodgers will likely field his strongest squad with it being so close to the start of the season, and due to the magnitude of the opposition.

Here is the Celtic XI that should smash Inter Milan in their upcoming game……

Craig Gordon

Craig Gordon

Is there really a discussion to be had here? Arguably one of the best keepers in Scotland, Gordon made 52 appearance for the Scottish champions last season, and looks set to continue as Celtic’s number 1 next season.

With neither Bailly or Fasan likely to get the nod ahead of Gordon, it seems pretty certain that this close to the start of the season, Rodgers will want Gordon to get all the game time he can get.

Mikael Lustig

Lustig

Ever present for Celtic last season, Lustig played 46 times and bagged 5 goals.

With Rodgers yet to bring in any other full backs to the club this summer, it looks as though Lustig will likely keep his place at right back next season.

Saidy Janko who is traditionally a right back, but can also play right wing,  was played against Barcelona earlier in the competition, I’d still expect Rodgers to play 29-year-old Swedish international, Lustig, against opposition like Inter.

Kolo Toure

One of two new signings this summer, manager Brendan Rodgers brought with him experienced defender Kolo Toure from Liverpool.

The two are well acquainted after their time at Liverpool, and with 499 club appearances to his name Toure is likely to have demanded assurances about game time when he joined the club.

Missing out on early pre-season friendlies, Celtic will want to get Toure up to speed and a demanding game against one of Italy’s’ top teams could be perfect.

Probably one of the most experienced Celtic players, at 35 years of age, Toure has played in nearly every competition at club level, and would be a re-assuring presence against the likes of Inter.

Eoghan O’Connell

The impressive young defender has turned heads this summer.

Played against both Leicester and Barcelona, the Irishman was praised by Rodgers for his calm approach, and was lauded for his ability to pass from the back, even under pressure.

I think Rodgers will believe he has a real talent on his hands here, and pairing O’Connell up with the likes of Toure in a big game against Inter will do wonders for the 20 year old’s development and confidence come the start of the season.

He gets the nod ahead of Ambrose for me, who has come in for criticism after his own goal against Barcelona.

Kieran Tierney

Young Tierney’s career took off last season, breaking into the first team, he made 33 appearances for the club last season, and won Celtic’s young player of the season award.

His biggest competition for the upcoming season is probably Emilio Izaguirre who managed 25 appearances throughout the last campaign.

However Izaguirre is now 30 years old, and being a pre-season game, Rodgers will likely want to give promising players like Tierney all the experience they can get.

This was further supported recently when Rodgers praised the youngster, calling him a “wonderful young football”.

Scott Brown

Mr Celtic, Scott Brown still remains a formidable part of the squad, and his experience will be vital against such huge European opposition.

Energetic, ferocious, aggressive, he is exactly what all teams hate playing against, and he will more than likely start against Inter on the 13th August.

Tom Rogic

rogic

Attacking midfielder Rogic is a skillful player who has an eye for goal. He is Brendan Rodgers kind of player, and shined in Celtic’s match against Barcelona, despite the team losing.

Rogic could be quite the secret weapon against Inter, and might be able to cause the oppositions defence some problems.

The 23 year old Australian bagged 11 goals last season in all competitions.

Nir Bitton

He took a significant knock against Barcelona, and what was thought to be a serious ankle injury is said not to be as bad as first thought.

The Israeli ace showed commitment during the Barca game and refused to come off the pitch after the incident.

He will be racing to get himself fit, but if able to do so will likely be deployed in the midfield trio, with him and Scott Brown likely to give Rogic license to get forward.

Scott Sinclair

Sinclair

Blessed with lightening pace, good feet and an eye for goal, Sinclair is able to play on either wing and would likely slot straight into Celtic’s squad.

Although his career has slowed over the past few years, the 27 year old undeniably has quality.

Leigh Griffiths

Dundee United v Celtic - Scottish Premiership

Celtic’s priceless striker Giffiths scored his 50th goal for Celtic back in January, and had the best season of his career to date banging in a whopping 40 goals in 51 appearances.

It was quite the year for the 25-year-old, with boss Rodgers hopeful the Scottish forward can continue that form into the upcoming season.

You can be sure he will be Celtic’s primary firearm against Inter Milan.

Moussa Dembele

New boy Moussa Dembele was one of the English Championships hot prospects last year bagging himself 17 goals for Fulham.

Although slightly underwhelming in his appearances so far, Celtic fans can be sure to see plenty of the striker over the next few years.

Likely to be pushed out wide in this formation, a front 3 of Sinclair, Griffiths and Dembele would be frightening for any defence.

Inter Milan would be a great team to get on the scoresheet against, and would do wonders for Dembele’s confidence for the upcoming season in the Scottish Premiership.
