On Tuesday, Tottenham will face Juventus it what is expected to be a real test of the English side’s fitness going into the next season.
Their squad depth is thin, with many of their main stars still on holiday following Euro 2016 – but that doesn’t mean their squad is bad.
In fact, the squad looks good on the surface, and they will no doubt pose a real threat to Juventus.
In fact, our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern is backing them for a win if they choose a strong side!
With that, we think that THIS Tottenham XI will batter Juventus on their pre-season friendly on Tuesday…..
GK: Michel Vorm
Michel Vorm has had to settle for a second-choice role at Tottenham, as Hugo Lloris goes from strength to strength between the sticks for the London side.
Vorm proved how good he was during his spell with Swansea, and if he can replicate that sort of form then he can definitely still do a job in goal for Spurs.
It may be his last opportunity before Lloris rejoins the squad, and so he needs to ensure that he performs if he wants a choice in the first team next season.
RB – Kieran Trippier
Kieran Tripper scored his first Tottenham goal at the start of 2016, and whilst he has only managed to get 6 league appearances under his belt with Spurs so far, he will no doubt be looking to kick on next year.
He is now a fully fledged member of the Tottenham first team, and so should not look out of place in this Tottenham back line.
He should give Pochettino some real food for thought in who he might pick on the right hand side of the Tottenham defence going forward.
CB – Kevin Wimmer
Fresh off the back of a new five year deal with Tottenham, Kevin Wimmer will no doubt get a chance to impress in the middle of a Tottenham back four.
Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are missing from the squad, and Wimmer will no doubt be looking to kick on and impress as he seeks a first team role next season.
Spurs have shown their faith in him with a five year deal; he should look to repay that faith with a solid performance on Tuesday.
CB – Cameron Carter-Vickers
Cameron Carter-Vickers is a real talent, and is expected to kick on over the next year or so and make himself a household name at Tottenham.
If you don’t know much about him now; you will do soon.
With very little competition in defense for this game, if he performs he could find himself in the Tottenham first team next year.
LB – Kyle Walker-Peters
Like his namesake, Kyle Walker-Peters is a natural right full back; but due to the lack of defensive squad depth in this squad; he could get a run out on the right hand side of the Tottenham defence on Tuesday.
He recently scored for the England u19’s, and is known for his versality; so he could fit in well.
Could he make an impression and get his name known? We think he just might.
CM – Ryan Mason
Ryan Mason recently spoke of his desire to dislodge Dembele and Dier out of the Tottenham midfield; and the perfect place to start that process is with a few good performances in pre-season.
Juventus will prove a real test for Mason, as he bids to show Pochettino what he can do against some of Europe’s best teams.
If he really wants to solidify himself next year; he needs to put in a real performance on Tuesday.
CM – Victor Wanyama
Tuesday might give Tottenham fans another opportunity to take a look at their new signing Victor Wanyama.
Everyone knows how good he can be; but it is up to Wanyama to prove to Tottenham that he is deserving of a starting place ahead of either Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele.
Expect him to put in a real shift.
CM: Heung-Min Son
Rumours have linked Heung-Min Son with a move away from Tottenham this summer; so pre-season offers Son a real opportunity to keep his space in the Tottenham first team.
Pochettino is reportedly losing patience with Son, citing poor performances at the end of last season, so this may be his last chance.
A natural attacking midfielder, Son will no doubt push on and leave Mason and Wanyama to do most of the defensive work.
Playing under pressure may force him to perform well; and when on form he is unstoppable.
Right Wing – Nacer Chadli
Nacer Chadli has come a fan favourite at Tottenham, and there is no surprise why.
Despite being linked with a move away in recent weeks, Chadli has been consistent in a Tottenham shirt, offering a real threat going forward.
He will no doubt continue to perform in a Tottenaham shirt.
Left Wing – Christian Eriksen
Nothing needs to be said about Christian Eriksen; everyone knows what he can do.
Unrivalled quality from set pieces, and able to serve the ball on a plate to players in front of him; Eriksen will be a real problem for Juventus.
STR – Vincent Janssen
Vincent Janssen is Tottenham’s latest signing, and the game against Juventus may give him an opportunity to introduce himself to the Tottenham faithful.
With Harry Kane still on holiday, he will no doubt want to get a few early good performances under his belt before his first team rival comes back.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see him bag a goal or two.
