Not many Premier League clubs are willing to take a gamble on the products of their youth system, and Arsenal – once the leading light of youth prospects – are now no exception.

The Gunners youth academy has produced some exceptional talent over the years, including Cesc Fabregas and Ashley Cole.

However, the last young player to make a real impact at Arsenal was Jack Wilshere, who made his Arsenal debut almost a decade ago.

While Wilshere has gone on to become both an Arsenal and England regular, no Arsenal youth player has followed in his footsteps over the past 8 years.

Last season’s emergence of Alex Iwobi however may be a signal that things are about to change at the Emirates, and that Arsenal are set to produce themselves a new golden generation of rich talent.

Whether or not Arsene Wenger will use those who are set to break through their academy is another question, and the answer is probably no – with the Frenchman relying heavily on bringing in youth players from elsewhere over the past seasons.

Premier League clubs should keep their eyes peeled – none more so than Chelsea who are set for a revamp this summer with new manager Antonio Conte set to take over after the Euro’s.

Chuba Akpom

Akpom has been at Arsenal since he was only 6-years-old, but despite making a few first team appearances, has spent most of his senior Gunners career out on loan.

The England U-21 International scored 7 times last campaign while on loan at Hull City, including his first senior hat-trick back in January away at Bury in the FA Cup.

Akpom has also scored regularly at international level, having bagged 21 times combined at youth level for England.

Hector Bellerin

While many predict that the Spanish right back will make the switch back to the Nou Camp to rejoin his boyhood club Barcelona, Chelsea are in desperate need of a right back and should not discount a move for Bellerin.

With Ivanovic coming to the end of his Blues career, who better to step up and replace him than last seasons PFA Team of the Season right back?

Vlad Dragomir

Already training with the First Team, the young 17-year-old Romanian Dragomir looks set for big things, and has already drawn comparisons to Germany’s Toni Kroos.

Powerful yet calm and composed with the ball at his feet, Dragomir has an excellent range of passing and is a dominant force in the middle of the park. Sounds just like what Chelsea need.

Alex Iwobi

Iwobi is positive with the ball at his feet and is more than happy to run at defenders, knowing his pace and power makes it difficult to stop him.

The academy graduate looks more than comfortable in Arsenal’s starting line-up already- having made his debut in the Champions League against Bayern Munich – and at only 19 years of age, will only continue to get better.
