If there’s one club that needs a good transfer window arguably more than any other in the Premier League this January it’s surely West Ham.
Certainly, our Hammers fans here in the Transfer Tavern think it could make or break their campaign if they have a good window after seeing their dealings in the one from the summer fall largely flat on their faces.
Whilst the jury is still out on Andre Ayew and Sofiane Feghouli thanks to their respective injuries the verdict is well and truly in on some other recent acquisitions and it is certainly damning.
The likes of Simone Zaza, Jonathan Calleri and Gokhan Tore have all been hugely underwhelming and so there must be a bit of pressure on Slaven Bilic to get it right when the next window opens.
Though the January window can often prove difficult to navigate, perhaps some New Year shopping could provide the Irons with a much-needed shot in the arm.
Our landlord certainly thinks there is but he thinks if West Ham sign these four midfielders, and there’s every chance they could, the Croatian will have redeemed himself…
Ruben Loftus-Cheek
The deal is rumoured to be on and it would certainly be a signing (temporary or permanent) that would make sense for everyone involved.
Chelsea would be seeing one of their players develop by having a better chance of first team football whilst Loftus-Cheek himself would be getting that all important Premier League game time he needs to establish himself.
Finally, the Hammers would be getting a very promising midfielder so it’s surely win-win.
Adam Forshaw
Forshaw has impressed during his time at Middlesbrough and has also caught the eye of many since their promotion to the Premier League.
Whether or not they can stay in the division remains to be seen but you have to feel that keeping the midfielder is one of the key factors to that.
West Ham should be looking to sign him, though, he can pass the ball well and he’s not afraid of a physical battle. He’s everything their midfield needs.
Gerard Deulofeu
The Everton man is highly talented but he isn’t always getting the playing time he needs out wide for the Toffees to develop as a player.
He’s only 22 so his potential to grow into a class footballer can still be worked on yet that doesn’t seem to be happening at Goodison Park.
West Ham should be seriously looking at him because he can unlock defences and should only get better.
Kerim Frei
Bilic worked with Frei at Besiktas and so, in a bid for the Croatian to show he can still buy decent players, he may be tempted to link up with a footballer he already knows about.
Frei didn’t have the best time of it in the Premier League a few years ago with Fulham but does possess good technical attributes that, if harnessed, can be used to have a great impact.
