4 transfers Arsenal can’t afford to miss out on in January

The Football Transfer Tavern punters are beginning to get used to seeing Arsenal miss out on transfer targets..

Arsenal supporters in the Tavern have been getting frustrated by the lack of action by Arsene Wenger and the club’s board – whilst fans of rival clubs in the Tavern have been quite enjoying it.

However, if Arsenal are in a position where they have a chance of getting the top spot come Christmas, then they need to make sure that they act in the January transfer window – because not acting at this time has often ruined the chances of teams at both ends of the table.

Arsene Wenger is a big believer in buying in young talent and developing it or bringing players through the academy, but the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern feel that he needs to sign another big name to go with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech if the Gunners are to get anywhere near top spot.

The landlord has come up with FOUR signings that Arsenal need to make in the January transfer window.

Do you agree with these picks and who do you think Arsenal should sign? Let us know.

 Antoine Griezmann

Everyone fan in the Football Transfer Tavern wanted to see Antoine Griezmann come to their club over the summer, especially after his stellar performance at Euro 2016.

If the Frenchman does become available in January, then the Gunners need to make sure that they are the ones securing his signature.

The Frenchman is an out and out goalscorer –  something that Arsene Wenger has not been able to capture in recent years.

Giroud is good – great in fact. But Griezmann is world class – and Arsenal need world class players to achieve long-term success.

 Phil Jones

Phil Jones

Not the most exciting of signings, but Phil Jones could be a very useful player to have in the Arsenal squad.

He would be good cover across the backline and he would be good competition for Arsenal’s starters in the centre back position.

He hasn’t played too many times for Manchester United lately, but if the Red Devils allow him to leave then he could become a reliable player that Arsene Wenger knows he is able to call upon – especially if Shkodran Mustafi or Laurent Koscielny were to get injured.

 Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal have already moved for Lucas Perez, who has opened his scoring account already with two goals against Nottingham Forest.

If the Spaniard gets regular goals then he could be seen as another bargain unearthed by Arsene Wenger, however if that doesn’t happen then Arsenal need to invest in a bigger name striker that has regularly scored goals for years.

He would be a dream signing for a few of the Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern.

Roque Mesa

Arsene Wenger loves unearthing a gem from abroad, and Las Palmas’ Roque Mesa could be the next one to come to the Emirates Stadium.

The 27 year old has had a great start to the season, scoring in a 2-0 win against Sevilla and his stock is quickly rising.

If Arsenal want to get their man then they may have to move in January, as a lot of other big clubs could be circling around the midfielder.
