With the season close to an end the battle is really on for promotion to the Premier League for next season.
It has as ever been another Championship season full of twists and turns which will no doubt go down to the wire.
Many teams have held the top spot in the division that is one of the most watched around the world for its total commitment and fashionable football that is on display.
Some massive clubs over the years have found themselves relegated to the Championship from the Premier League over the last few years and found it harder than they think to make an immediate return to England’s top flight.
Leeds United are a fine example of this, a team riddled with debt that found themselves falling as low as League One.
There are many big clubs competing in the Championship now who would no doubt relish a return to the Premier League, so our landlord here in The Transfer Tavern has made a list of five teams he feels deserve to be in the Premier League.

Middlesbrough
Aitor Karanka has had his share of ups and downs this season, even telling the players that he didn’t want to manage them anymore leading to speculation surrounding his future at the club.
Middlesbrough are a well run club who spend within their means, and are passionately run by Mr Middlesbrough himself Steve Gibson.
They have been close to returning to the Premier League on numerous occasions none closer than last season’s playoff final defeat at Wembley.
Burnley
One of the oldest teams in the Football League who play their games a Turf Moor an old fashioned stadium which reminds you of the old days.
They have been in consistent form since Sean Dyche arrived at the club who has led them to the Premier League, and back to the Championship.
Always an electric atmosphere at Turf Moor and well supported wherever they play.
They currently lead the Championship and look like making a return to the top flight next season.
Ipswich Town
Another club sorely missed in the Premier League and a football team who are always a joy to watch.
Whether or not they make a return to the Premier League will be determined on how well they finish the season.
Mick McCarthy has built a squad capable of making a return to the Premier League and as one of the founder members it would be good to have Portman Road back on many fans trips next season.
Sheffield Wednesday
Another side who were regularly in the top half of the Premier League during the 1990’s and another who have found it hard to return.
Sheffield Wednesday found themselves dropping to League One following relegation from the Premier League.
Under new ownership Wednesday fans are having one of their best campaigns for sometime and are handily placed to make a return via the playoffs come May.
Leeds United
The demise of Leeds United has been one of the most well documented in football history.
Followinh relegation from the Premier League they found themselves drop as low as League One and have not yet found the formula to regain their place in England’s elite.
The Premier League certainly misses the rivalry between themselves and clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United, and hopefully things will soon be calmer at Elland Road for the club to be back fighting for honours in England’s top flight sooner rather than later.
