5 free transfers Tottenham should seriously consider signing this summer – Agreed?

Here at Transfer Tavern we are discussing whether or not any free agents this summer could improve the current Tottenham Hotspur squad, after one of their best seasons in years.

Stability at the club and Champions League football is almost certainly guaranteed next season and the title isn’t out of reach yet, they could have a very successful season.

There aren’t many positions needed in the current Spurs squad which need replacing or tweaking, as after the emergence of Dele Alli and Eric Dier Spurs midfield has been great along with Mousa Dembele, Harry Kane has been superb once again and they have only conceded 25 goals in 33 Premier League games.

Tottenham will be keen not to fall behind their rivals and with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United set to spend big under their new managers. Spurs know they will have to spend and improve each year to keep up.

Here though, we’re considering what bargains Mauricio Pochettino should consider as these players wouldn’t cost a penny in transfer fees!

Zlatan Ibrahimović

Zlatan IbrahimovicZlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a free agent this summer and it has been reported he is keen on a move to England. There is no doubt that he is one of the best strikers of all time and as it stands it doesn’t look like he’ll sign a new contract with PSG- and there are plenty of teams eager to sign him.

He would take Tottenham to another level and really give them a world class frontline along with Harry Kane, there has been fear amongst Spurs fans that what happens if Kane gets injured, having Zlatan in the squad would help release pressure of Kane and almost guarantee them 20 goals a season and help them massively in Europe next season.

Spurs will have to move fast if they have any chance of getting there man as the world’s best teams will be lined up wanting his signature.

Hatem Ben Arfa

Ben Arfa

Hatem Ben Arfa is still without a doubt a great player, although his time at Newcastle United didn’t prove so there were still enough glimpses to see he has talent. He has had a brilliant season with Nice in Ligue 1 and has so far scored 16 goals.

There have been questions about his attitude and professionalism after the way he left England, but there is no doubt about his talent. He would be a very good player for Spurs and they could use him on either flank and help the team rotate with their current crop of wingers.

He will be in high demand this summer for sure and I am certain he will not be short of offers.

Sofiane Feghouli

Sofiane Feghouli

Feghouli is quick, attacking and technically gifted and being able to sign him on a free is quite amazing. He has had a very good campaign with Valencia and is now entering his prime years at the age of 26.

He has turned down a new contract to stay in Spain and is seeking a move away; he would improve any team he goes to and fight to be starting. Tottenham have been linked with the winger in recent months but face competition from Liverpool and Manchester United.

Gregory Van Der Wiel

Van Der Wiel

After an external incident at PSG this season left his future in doubt, there is no argument that van der Wiel is a very good players and could play in any league’s across Europe. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a successful spell in Paris and has won the Ligue 1 title this season, he would be great back up for Kyle Walker and would give Spurs great confidence if Walker got injured or needed resting.

There has been more controversy with van der Wiel after he left a PSG match at half time after an argument with Zlatan Ibrahimović; he was later fined by the French Champions.

At 28 years old he still has many years left in his locker and it looks certain he will be leaving PSG this summer, Spurs would no doubt appeal to him as they look on their way to securing Champions League football.

Nicolas N’Koulou

N'Koulou

26 year old N’Koulou is gifted with blistering pace and is a very talented Centre Back. Although Spurs have been solid at the back I am sure they wouldn’t miss on the opportunity to sign a player of Nicolas N’Koulou’s caliber especially for free. Nicolas N’Koulou has kept quiet on the possibility of leaving after saying:

“It’s difficult to talk about it right now. My season isn’t finished. It’s important for me to stay focused and finish well.”

Leicester and Tottenham have been linked most recently, there is no doubt he would be a great asset to the team and could help them push on in all competitions.
