Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were pleased to see their side land Mohamed Elneny yesterday, after a drawn out saga, but they’re adamant that their side needs more additions this month.
The Gunners currently lead the Premier League standings, but only on goal difference, and face a stern test ahead as they look to win their first league title in 12 years.
Things are looking good but there have been some worrying signs, most notably defeats to West Brom and a drubbing against Southampton, but the fans at the bar weren’t best pleased to throw away a late lead against Liverpool in midweek.
As they see it, Elneny should be the first of a few additions and they’ve identified five players that they believe their side should express interest in this month and try to land. In their eyes, they could win Arsenal the title.

Alexandre Lacazette
The French international has publicly stated his intention to play in the Premier League and Arsenal know the price they’d have to pay, after Newcastle United saw a bid accepted earlier this month- only to see the player himself reject a move.
He wants Champions League football and Arsenal can offer him precisely that, whilst the player’s goalscoring ability would add a new dimension to Arsenal’s attacking line. Olivier Giroud has been on-fire this season but if he gets injured, Arsenal are screwed- it’s that simple.
Victor Wanyama
Mohamed Elneny may have arrived yesterday but our punters are concerned about his lack of Premier League experience, which is why they want insurance. With Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini all seeing their contracts expire this summer, Arsenal need a midfield reshuffle.
There is no time like the present and Wanyama would be a solid addition, having vast experience in England. He’d cost a small fortune but he’s eligible to feature against Barcelona in the Champions League and the latter stages of the competition, should Arsenal advance.
Wanyama would likely want a move to Arsenal, who have tracked him since his days at Celtic.
Granit Xhaka
Another midfielder Arsenal should prioritise signing is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka, a Swiss international who could potentially be the long-term successor to Santi Cazorla’s position in the Arsenal midfielder.
Monchengladbach aren’t the richest of German sides and can’t expect too much more success, so they’re unlikely to stand in the player’s way. Atletico Madrid’s interest, and most notably the recent ban, could present Arsenal with a problem- but they should be confident of landing this target.
Jose Gaya
Not a player that’s actually been linked with Arsenal but our punters are massive fans of Jose Gaya, widely regarded as one of the best prospects in Spain. Playing with an underperforming Valencia side, who aren’t in the most comfortable financial position, they could be persuaded into a sale.
Gaya, a left-back, would learn a lot from compatriot Nacho Monreal and the addition would see Arsenal’s wide options assured for the next decade. Hector Bellerin and Jose Gaya on each flank would be an exciting prospect and it’s one our fans are desperate to see.
Aymeric Laporte
With Per Mertesacker ageing, and Laurent Koscielny not too far behind him, Arsenal will be looking at centre-backs in the coming transfer windows. They have Gabriel Paulista ready to step-in but they could do with another defender.
Aymeric Laporte tops the wish-list of many Gooners at the bar, who are desperate for the Basque defender to join their club. With plenty of French compatriots in the team, Laporte would settle quickly and would develop into a fine defender.
