The January transfer window is undoubtedly one of the biggest, most important opportunities in the season for the majority of clubs.
They’ve played half the season and now have a chance to make either drastic changes or small alterations to the squad in order to improve for the second half and every single football fan finds themself scouring the news for any hint of a potential addition.
With Liverpool’s season being one of several ups and several downs so far, many of the Merseyside Red faithful will be hoping new boss, Jurgen Klopp, will be capable of influencing new players to Anfield in order to ensure at least a top-four finish this season.
Already Klopp has boosted his defensive options by signing Steven Caulker from QPR on loan and has made the decision to sign Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade for a fee of just over £5m but surely these signings aren’t enough.

Alex Teixeira
One of Liverpool’s most notable transfer targets during the January window comes in the form of Alex Teixeira who currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk.
Jurgen Klopp was willing to pay just less than £25m for the 26-year-old attacker but the Ukrainian club believe that Teixeira is worth much more than the Reds original offer.
Teixeira, who is highly valued at Donetsk, has scored 22 goals in 15 league games so far this season and Klopp is understandably keen to boost his striking options with Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi all out through injury.
Teixeira has also been linked with Premier League rivals, Chelsea, as well, valued closer to £39m. Although the initial bids from Liverpool have been rejected, Klopp may make a more satisfactory offer to Donestk in a hope to secure Teixeira’s services before another club does.
Despite the massive £53m release clause, it’s no secret that Teixeira would like to move to Merseyside so it will be interesting to see how things unfold.
Denis Cheryshev
Liverpool are ready to launch a new bid for Real Madrid winger, Denis Cheryshev, for a deadline day loan deal. The Russian is yet to be included in a single one of new boss, Zinedine Zidane’s, matchday squads and is desperate to make his move away from the Bernabeu in pursuit of regular first-team football.
Cheryshev, rated at around £7m, is hopeful of participating in Euro 2016 so will be doing his best to appear week-in week-out with Liverpool being one of his potential destinations.
With Cheryshev being left out in the cold at Madrid, a possible loan move to the Premier League for first-team football may be much more likely than you think.
Alvaro Morata
Another player on the radar for Jurgen Klopp on this transfer window deadline day is Juventus striker, Alvaro Morata. The 23-year-old frontman has been in and out of the Juventus squad but despite his disappointing amount of time on the bench, Morata has attracted interest from several sides in the Premier League, including Liverpool.
The Merseyside club are ready to offer £45.8m to seal a deal for the forward as Klopp is willing to splash to cash in order to bring him to Anfield.
Although a summer transfer would seem the much more likely option, Klopp is incredibly keen to get Morata’s services on board now so a deadline day move is far from off the table for the Spaniard.
Ilkay Gundogan
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, is another player that many have speculated might make the move to Anfield. It was initially thought that the 25-year-old was likely to move to Serie A side, Juventus, but Liverpool were given a boost after the Italian giants pulled out of the running for him.
Jurgen Klopp is hoping to be reunited with Gundogan by bringing him to the Premier League but Liverpool will also have to compete with top-flight rivals, Manchester United, for Gundogan’s signature.
Although it appears likely at this stage that Gundogan’s time at Dortmund may be extended, it will be interesting to see if Klopp’s influence can persuade the midfielder to make the move to England.
Joel Matip
Last but not least on Liverpool’s potential deals this deadline day is Schalke defender, Joel Matip. It was recently reported that Liverpool had made a bid for the German-born Cameroon international and further fuel was added to fire as rumours emerged suggesting that Matip had wanted to part company with the club.
Matip is out of contract in the summer and Schalke are understandably keen to maintain the defender’s services. Despite the fact that reports have suggested that there are another two French clubs interested to sign Joel Matip, Liverpool will be looking to bolster their defensive options this season and the 6ft 4in central defender would be a healthy addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
