5 players who could follow Diego Simeone to Chelsea if he joins

Chelsea have endured one of their worst seasons in recent years, and the resident Blues here in the Transfer Tavern are not happy with their position in the league table, as they languish in the bottom half of the table.

Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho was sacked by Roman Abramovich for the second time in his career earlier in the season.

Since then, interim boss Guus Hiddink has done a good job at moving Chelsea up through the table and away from the bottom positions.

However, it is widely believed here in the Tavern that Hiddink will make way at the end of the season, with several of the top managers from the continent having been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

One of those managers is Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, who has reportedly held discussions with Chelsea and has signalled his intent to leave the Calderon at the end of the current season.

So our landlord asked the Chelsea contingent over by the bar to scribble some players down onto a napkin that they would like to see follow Simeone to Chelsea.

Diego Godin

One player who could literally follow Simeone to Chelsea is defender Diego Godin.

Currently plying his trade under Simeone at Atletico, the 30-year old would bring some much needed experience to the Chelsea backline, with John Terry expected to leave at the end of the season.

The Uruguayan knows exactly what Simeone will want to do with the Chelsea squad and he is cited as one of the best centre backs in the world.

José Luis Gayà

A potential young defensive player who could also make the switch from La Liga to the Premier League is Valencia left-back José Luis Gayà.

The 20-year old is believed to be one of the best youngsters playing as a full-back at present, and Simeone will know all about his ability from the time he has spent coaching in Spain.

However, Chelsea may face competition from the likes of Manchester United and City, as well as Real Madrid.

Paul Pogba

One player who has been linked with a switch to the Blues for some time now is Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

It feels like the former Manchester United man has been around forever, but at just 22, his best years at yet to come.

With Chelsea having sold Ramires in January, they will be looking to bring in a world class replacement in the summer and French powerhouse Pogba would be the ideal candidate.

Antoine Griezmann

Another player who could transfer to Chelsea from Atletico alongside Simeone is forward Antoine Griezmann.

The 24-year old has netted 19 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions and he could be the ideal long-term replacement for former Atletico striker Diego Costa, should he leave.

Bringing in Griezmann would be a huge signing for Simeone if he wants to adopt a similar tactical style at Stamford Bridge.

Edinson Cavani

Cavani

Another striker who has been linked with a move to Chelsea recently is Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international scored the winning goal in the first leg for Paris Saint-Germain against the Blues in the Champions League round of 16 this week, but could be open to a move away from the French capital.

The 29-year old is believed to have been unhappy in Paris for some time, although his goalscoring record of 11 league goals from 22 appearances, suggests that he still has the potential to be a first choice striker at a big club.
