His press conferences will certainly include entertaining quotes.
His antics will cause football outsiders to hate him and supporters to love him.
Yes, the locals are talking about the potential of the one and only Jose Mourinho to enter through Old Trafford. This time, not as Chelsea manager, but as Manchester United’s gaffer.
There is no denying the success Mourinho has at each club. He leads them to Premier League glory and all his teams compete well in the Champions League.
Despite all his success, he causes massive headaches for the executives and supporters alike.
After downing a few pints at the Tavern, the locals have identified the FIVE reasons Jose Mourinho would be a horrendous appointment for Manchester United……

He’s not a long term manager
He doesn’t stay at clubs long.
The longest he has stayed at a single club was his first stint at Chelsea where he lasted a little over three seasons.
For a club to find stability after Sir Alex Ferguson left, the supporters will wonder how long Mourinho will last. Reporters will surely love to ask questions about how long he will stay at the club.
For a club to be successful, it must find a manager that will be present for longer than three seasons.
Constant change will force every player to readjust their style and chemistry will be lost. Jose must prove he is a long term manager for Manchester United.
Controversy follows everywhere he goes
It’s no secret that Jose loves controversy. Whether it’s at Chelsea, Inter Milan, or Real Madrid, Jose loves to mix it up with reporters, players, executives, or whoever steps in his way.
For a prestigious club like Manchester United, controversy is something that is frowned upon. Either United or Mourinho would have to change.
Jose has been in arguments with other managers during matches, called managers out during press conferences, and other such acts.
Sir Alex Ferguson would like to stay away from it. The locals at the Tavern would definitely have to adjust to a different style of managing if Jose came to the club.
Form drops off the longer he’s manager
Year 2 is a magical season for the clubs he manages.
This is when he delivers the long coveted domestic league title and all fans are ecstatic about Year 3.
Treble is looming; star players will turn into world beaters; Mourinho will create the greatest team on paper. Yet, unfortunately for all Mourinho enthusiasts, Year 3 fails to live up to every expectation (minus Inter’s success)
Presumably, United would want Mourinho at the club for at least three season.
No club hires a manager with the intention of only keeping him there for three seasons. That’s why more pints are being consumed with the thought of another short stint manager to take the reins at Old Trafford.
Star players Become unhappy
With an egotistical manager, star players tend to feel like the spotlight is shifting away from them. Just ask Cristiano about Jose’s tenure at Real Madrid.
The Tavern agrees that Jose Mourinho has great knowledge of the game of football. However, upsetting the star players to where they don’t play to their fullest potential will cause harm in any squad.
For a manager to be successful, he must walk the fine line of motivating each player while making sure the confidence is flowing through their bodies.
Jose makes sure each player knows he can do better on the field, but his methodology of making the star players happy can be questioned.
Expectations are not entirely met
The fans want to see immediate and consistent success by Jose.
His ego and his words support these expectations. Fans were unhappy with him early on at Inter Milan as fans wanted to see better success in the Champions League. Fans at Real Madrid wanted La Liga and Champions League glory immediately.
Even though Jose delivers on some fronts, not everything is achieved.
The supporters at the Tavern want Manchester United to be back on top in the Premier League and Champions League.
Although no one questions whether United would be competitive in the Premier League, fans will be sceptical whether he can bring United to the top with more well respected managers making their mark in the league.
