Tonight heralds the establishment of a new event in the Football Transfer Tavern, and one I could break my landlord rules for and actually join in on – a Subbuteo tournament.
I was down in the cellar grabbing a couple of kegs when I came across the old table and, after dusting it down and telling the punters about what I’d discovered, they convinced me to host a retro Subbuteo night.
Anyway, during the opening fixture (I may be taken this a little too seriously) I was chatting with a Chelsea customer and we worked out that the West London club could field a side purely of midfielders! Madness!
This was even before we considered the imminent arrival of Porto’s Christian Atsu’s at Stamford Bridge.
Talking of Atsu, does anyone know much about him? I asked the punters but they were too drunk to care.
I tell you what, after my Subbuteo game, I will ask around the tavern and see what pops up.
