Though Wayne Rooney is often made the scapegoat for the wider failings of English football by the punters in the Transfer Tavern, his replacement as captain tonight hasn’t been in for much more applause.
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson will lead the Three Lions out against Slovenia in the World Cup qualifier tonight after Gareth Southgate took the decision to drop the nation’s record goalscorer.
Though the former Sunderland man has come on leaps and bounds since initially joining the Reds in 2011, it’s fair to say he’s yet to wholly convince the wider public.
Despite some rather imperious form on Merseyside this term, it appears some of the United fans on Twitter have reacted rather badly to his promotion by Southgate.
While Rooney isn’t the most popular amongst the Red Devils these days, even the former Everton prodigy is their preference over the 26-year-old.
So, with that in mind, here are the SIX funniest fan reactions to Henderson replacing Rooney.
