d to make a significant impact in his first season at the club, rumours are abound that Joe Cole will be leaving Merseyside in the coming weeks.
However, up until now, the clubs linked with Cole, such as Q.P.R and West Ham, are unlikely to be able to meet the players £90k a week wage demands. With The Sun reporting interest from Paris St-Germain, now backed by the affluent Qatar Investment Authority, Cole could find himself leaving Anfield sooner rather than later.
Brought to the club by former manager Roy Hodgson on a free transfer, the player failed to appeal to the club’s fans with a series of lacklustre performances in the opening months of the season. Following the arrival of Kenny Dalglish, Cole found himself used as cover for the more in-form Maxi Rodriguez, and continued to be unimpressive in his limited opportunities.
Things may have changed this season however, with Dalglish using the England international extensively in Liverpool’s preseason preparations and has been rewarded by seeing much improved performances from Cole, and the 29-year old may have earned himself another chance at Anfield.
Should Cole not feature in Dalglish’s plans for the coming season, then the club would be willing to allow him to leave for a small fee, as the £90k a week alleviated from their wage budget could allow for Dalglish and Damien Comolli to bring in one or two more new additions.
Having already brought in exceptional talent Javier Pastore, as well as continuing their attempts to sign Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, PSG are making waves in the transfer market this summer, as they attempt to transform themselves into one of Europe’s elite, and Cole could yet prove to be a valuable part of the jigsaw.
