Roman Abramovich really needs Antonio Conte to achieve these 2 things at Chelsea in 2018

Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that boss Conte can get things right in this transfer window as he surely seeks to strengthen the squad in some key areas.

After a bit of a wobble at the start of the season, our regulars have noticed that Chelsea has looked to improve weekly and seem destined to grab a top-four spot alongside the two Manchester clubs, with the other three top six teams fighting it out for the last remaining place.

The current Premier League champions look likely to lose their crown, to a Man City team that is in irresistible form in the first half of the season. Having lifted the trophy twice in three years, Chelsea will be eager to push City close to the end of the season, despite the current gap between the two.

Still, Roman Abramovich will be hoping that Blues boss Conte can go into his third season in the Premier League having achieved these two possible targets according to our landlord…

Building a squad

Conte has been working with a threadbare squad, mainly down to injuries and possibly not having the most productive summer window in 2017, where he missed out on many targets. Already he’s secured a signing to go into 2018 already, the Italian must surely look to bring in more.

With possibly the title out of reach for this season, Conte could turn his attention to next season’s challenge and be building a squad good enough to lift their third title in five years.

Win one piece of silverware

Although Chelsea are still in for all four competitions, realistically Chelsea will look to the English cups to get their hands on some silverware. While Conte won the league title in his first year, a cup trophy will add a little something different to his English experience.

A Carabao Cup win would, as with most teams, build momentum going into the final hurdle of the title race.
